Anyone had to deck their block?

I cannot find any instance of someone having to deck their m156 block. Every account of a head gasket failure/replacement has the person just cleaning the block and being good to go. I've had another headgasket failure (the heads were flattened/pressure tested/cleaned/etc.) so I know it's not them....so the block is the only thing left. This time the gasket lasted about 200 miles.

Also, can anyone think of any other way coolant can make it into a cylinder causing white smoke/misfires, but not into the oil except a headgasket failure? Seems a cracked cylinder would cause coolant to leak past the piston unless it was right at the very top of the cylinder, which visually didn't appear to be the case when I reassembled last time.

I have experienced white smoke/steam & misfires from a cylinder head that was CNC ported into an area of porosity - the intake port on one cylinder was very slightly porous... so slightly that it did not leak on pressurized bench testing but did leak slightly when at operating temperature & with the vacuum on overrun.

Luck!
I noticed evidence of the green glycol pigment stain in the port.
I had the head impregnated (Loctite Vacuum Impregnation) & it was never an issue after that.

Who did the head impregnation? The machine shop? I never heard of this process before for a head.

A local company that we have used for many years & several applications, however I am based in Melbourne, Australia, so not much help to you.
Contact Henkel for a service provider near you.
