Hi guys , So there is an upcoming drag event and I’m thinking about running M/T 315/35/17 ET STREET R tires, will they fit ? Is it safe for a stock gearbox and driveshaft? I have wavetrac LSD fitted….

What size tires are you running now, out of curiosity? I run ET Street R’s on my 9 second Camaro SS. 315/35/17 is only a 26” tall tire whereas most PD blower guys want to get closer to 28” tall to help tame the low end torque that PD blowers make. I’m on 15’s at the strip now, but when I was running 17’s I used 305/45/17 and that was great. More aspect ratio is preferred and is more important than tire width at the drag strip.

The more sidewall you run, the “safer” it is on your driveline components as the “wrinkle” on launch helps soften the shock load. I snapped my factory driveshaft when I was running drag radials on my OEM 20” wheels. Very little sidewall so it was brutal on the driveline lol…

im running 255/35/19 for daily, the M/T are almost the same height but the profile is not chunky, will fatter tyres change gear ratios ? My car is SC it did 100-200 in 7.1 on 255 Pzero and 1/4 mile in 12 flat with lots of wheel spin....hoping to hit 10s with drag radials and weight loss.

OK, the 305/45/17 you proposed is a lot bigger both in width and overall diameter so that might not work on your car… I don’t have a C63 so I don’t know what fits lol. However, Mickey Thompson offers the ET Street R radial in a 275/40/17 size which might be a much safer bet for you since it’s only 8% wider and within 1.2% in overall diameter. The important part is twofold:
1. The sidewall is 23% thicker than what you are currently running.
2. The ET Street R compound on a prepared track will stick like glue… PZeros are no comparison.

Although you were spinning on your last run, what was your trap speed? That will give us an idea of what the car is capable of.

I ran 255/?/16 hoosier dot drags. Had no issues with wheel spin. You don't need something that large that will likely not fit unless you have a huge negative offset and a lift kit.
