Joe P's '09 C63 Build Thread

My name is Joe from Phila, Pa. I own both a W208 CLK55 and a W220 S55, each with build threads in their respected sub forums. I found this C63 while i was looking at an Exhaust for the S55, which was sitting in a parking lot of a mechanic shop. I started talking to the Techs that worked there and sure enough the one guy said "You should buy this C63 off of me, i don't have time for it." I had zero interest at first, but after talking with the guy, getting some background info on the car and looking it over (yes its rough) we agreed to a price of $5K and i set up the Tow. It has pretty much everything going against it currently, however at the price I paid, i figured i won't get absolutely killed on it if infact things start to go south. It has 146K miles, Flood title, some small body work needed, some small interior work needed, wheels/tires needed and it needs the cam adjuster plates done. He did start the car and let it run for about 20 seconds so i did hear the engine turn over and run. Typical adjuster noise at start up which went away once oil pressure would build.
My plan of attack is to do the plates and make sure she runs and drives. My issue is the tired and true saying of "While you're in there" and how far i want to take it right off the bat. I can do just the plates and button everything back up and make sure it will run and drive properly, but then i'll have to rip everything back apart to do lifters, cams, head-bolts, plugs, injectors, etc etc.
I would like to have the car ready by spring/early summer, however with 2 other cars and being self-employed I'm giving myself a lenient time frame. I'll slowly gather parts and more info on how i want to attack this and go from there. I've already began tearing into the engine somewhat. I purchased a timing tool kit and popped one of the VC's off and started labeling with a paint marker. The Pass. Side valve cover has a stripped bolt so thats next to address.
It should be a fun journey and i'm looking forward to enjoying this car. Any helpful information is always appreciated and welcomed.
Heres a couple pictures of how i found it, and where it sits now until the work is complete...
A little concerning with how much corrosion/rust is showing on the intake camshaft....cause for more serious concern?
Needless to say I have my work cut out for me...
