Choosing between a C63 and a CLS63
Therefore, now considering buying something with the M156 engine, especially because it is supported by HP Tuners (which I am very familiar with on GM cars).
Locally there is a 2007 CLS63 which appears in very good condition; never driven in winter here, but with 140K miles. Asking $11K.
Also a modified 2010 C63 with P31 package, a EuroCharged tune, TCM tune, headers and other upgrades. Rebuilt title with 115K miles. Asking $17K. I saw the before picture; front end damage.
I noticed that the CLS63 is rated at 507HP while the C63 is rated at only 460HP (or so). I assume the engine is the same and the C63 is simply detuned for marketing reasons to get people to spend more money for a CLS63 . (Or a C63S ??)
I also PM'ed @hachiroku some questions about overwriting the existing tune with his own.
I welcome all thoughts and hope to join the M156 community soon.

If you're planning on building a track toy, the C63 has some advantages.
But outside of this, and especially between those options, that CLS63 seems like a cleaner car and a much better buy.

Hi Ted, Thanks for reaching out. Luckily I was logged in and saw this message. I haven't been frequenting MBWorld for a few months now.
- The tune would be tuner locked
- We only use HP Tuners because ease of building new files by hand versus other software packages. HP Tuners isn't the ideal tuning situation, it's just what works for us for now.
- Our tunes are not recommended or compatible with TCU tunes
- Our ECU tune will overwrite any pre-existing tune
- The C63 aside from the 507 edition, their factory tunes limit power. When tuned, all power would be unlocked.
- The C63 and CLS63 are quite different animals.
- The C63 is lightweight and tossable due to weighing 500lbs less.
- The CLS63 is a grand tourer with power and great styling.
- The top M156 engines are the dark intake manifold versions with forged pistons.
- These come in the SLS AMG versions and C63's with the P30 or P31 Performance Pack depending on year and country. 507 Edition vehicles included.
