Need Help! How to check my timing with my Diagnostic Scanner
I have a ICARSOFT MB 3.0. How to I use the Live Data to check my engine timing. I don't want to have to take off valve covers to check the timing. I want to use the data. What should I be looking at and what values should I be seeing?

the live data only shows what the ECU is commanding, not what is mechanically set. If you want to verify timing you need to remove the valve covers and set the crank at 40* to make sure everything is still timed up correctly. The valve covers are not difficult to remove, just a Torx bit and use side cutters to cut the zip ties for the engine harness and tuck them out of the way. Order the gaskets and single-use bolts from FCP Euro so you can get free replacements in the future. Good time to inspect the valve cover for cracks and also the cam lobes and buckets for excessive wear, and also put a wrench on the cams and see if the cam phasers are locked up.

Thank you for those words of wisdom. I actually decided to start pursuing that route as of yesterday. I also found a grounding problem with the ground on the left side at the valve timing cover that I am also investigating. We be checking the timing later today. Thank you.
