You are correct - The C43 is only the regular 4matic, not the 4matic+, so no drift mode. I'm guessing you can get the back end to play slightly because oft the rear-wheel bias...if you are able to turn off DSC.

The M139 engine in the CLA 45 has an e-turbo. You can hear it spin down when you shut off the car. If you open the driver's side door (probably any door) with the car running, you also hear the same spin down of the turbo (love the sound).
The C43 has the same M139 engine, but it's tuned to 402 with the extra 13 coming from the hybrid assist.
The M139L that's in the 45S puts out 417 hp and that's coming to the US for the 2024 refresh of the CLA. Would have loved to see the M139L with hybrid assist in the C43 to bump the hp up to 430. Perhaps that will come later.
I was thinking about getting a CLA 45S when they come out next year, but recently I've been looking at the C43 for the extra room and refinement (and I wouldn't have to wait until next year to get one).

The car does not have 4matic+. It's always fixed at the 31/69 distribution of power.
The M139L (L indicates longitudinal) and does not exist for the CLA45. The CLA does not get the eturbo and its engine designation is M139 and is mounted in a transverse configuration.

Yeah, my bad on saying the L is in the 45S. Not sure how I messed that up. I'm pretty sure the M139 in my CLA45 has an e-turbo. I've seen it mentioned in more than one place and I can hear it spinning down when I turn the car off or open the driver's side door with the engine running. I'm open to another explanation of what I'm hearing though.

Well, that pretty much settles it. With the lease rate at 8%, the monthly payment for a decently equipped C43 ($98k) is an insane $2,000 CAD a month. I never thought the day would come that a C43 would actually come to that much.
The “good news” is that the vehicle is confirmed to be on this continent, and should be at the dealer by the end of the month. Anyhow, I’m probably going to eat the $3k deposit and not take the C43, but at least I end up with a car that I will actually pay less for, and is way more worth its $100k price, at least in my opinion. It also comes in red .

If you are referring to this, the CLA 45 does not have it.

Also, what am I hearing spin down every time I shut the car off or open the driver's door when the engine is running? It's a very distinct sound that I have not heard in other vehicles and that's what led me to believe it was the turbo spinning down.
Thanks,
Uncle D

Sorry about that, I stand corrected. I kept thinking that they brought a MCT over and launch control over they would had brought 4MATIC+, what a missed opportunity as the CLA 45 S had 4MATIC+ and 4MATIC is an aging system as I believe the E 63 S had 4MATIC+ then the E 53 had it as well, I guess they want to save something for the C 63 S E Performance as they think buyers won't be cross shopping the CLA 45 S? Anyways thanks for your correction.

No clue. It was going to be my first Merc. I think it all worked out for the better in the end. I sorta “talked myself into” the car by trying to convince myself that the whole 4-cyl thing was okay. But I think in all actuality, I probably just wasn’t that into the car anymore. The price really just pushed me over.
it worked out well. The only grey cloud was losing the deposit.

As for the deposit, yeah I can keep it if I got another MB. The problem is, there's no other MB to get, and with MB's interest rate at above 8% here, it's all going to be way over priced. I considered the MY24 CLA45, but then I'll be waiting into my 3rd year of trying to lease a car for my business.

2023, Red - Alfa Giulia Quatrifoglio. I'll be paying way less than the C43 per month for a car that competes with the C63/M3/RS5 which just so happens to have a pretty nice Ferrari-derived V6. Like I said, it worked out for the better!

Congrats on your Alfa though that is a neat car! The only thing I would change is the interior but that is just me but otherwise it is neat.

This would have been my first MB, so alas, no loyalty discount. As for the interior of the Giulia - i do agree that it is a bit sparse compared to a lot of the interiors out there today, but there are 3 things I love about it: 1) no ambient lighting 2) analogue gauges and 3) physical buttons and dials! Everything else, I don't care about

I originally had CLA45 on order before Merc decided they couldn't meet demands and first pushed my order from MY22 to MY23 before ultimately canceling it. I still think the CLA45 would've been the one for me. Its personality and driving dynamic was more of what I was looking for. . After it was cancelled, I obviously had the choice to get my deposit back or choose something else, and it just so happened that the new C43 was announced that week. So, instead of taking back the deposit, I decided to transfer it to a new order. In hindsight, it was probably not the most prudent thing to do; putting money down for a car that I wouldn't even lay my hands on for an entire calendar year, but it had the same engine and the c-class seemed to be decent, so why not? But as time went on, and as I watched/read more reviews that compared the pros/cons, as well as following the discussions from various sources including this thread, it became clear that I was just waiting for this car because of convenience and the fact that I had already put a sum of money into it.
Sidenote: I'm actually typing that last sentence above, and it's seems to be resembling a loveless marriage or an explanation of how guys date; "just keep her around and drop her until something younger and prettier comes around" . Now I feel like an ***
In all honesty, from the sounds of it, if I had kept the car it would have been fine. The performance is there, I like the looks, and the interior looks great albeit really creaky (at least the C300s I've had experience with are). I would have been fine with it, and if it hadn't been for the lease rate, I probably would have kept the car and lived happily ever (until the end of the lease or EVERY SINGLE TIME a C63 pulls up next to me at a corner). I think the 4-wheel steering is something that I'll probably miss out on, as it sounds like it's going to be pretty amazing, as well as that lag free (almost) turbo experience. At the end of the day though, I just couldn't get past the fact that I would be paying $2000 for a C-Class with some extra HP. It came down to numbers. And with that in mind, here are some of the numbers I had to go on. I'm happy to pass around the contracts if anyone is interested in having a closer look.
Option 1: C43 AMG
- Sale Price (As Configured and after $2,000 discount): $94,490.13
- Lease Rate: 8.04%
- Monthly Payment (taxes in): $2,039.65
- Residual: $46,466.70
Option 2: Giulia QV
- Sale Price (Loaded except for Carbon seats; no discount): $94,945.00
- Lease Rate: 5.99%
- Monthly Payment: $1,691.85
- Residual: $60,141.65
So given the information above and given the specs of both cars: Even if I was into the bells and whistles of the C43, even if I didn't mind (because nobody LOVES) having capacitive touch controls for pretty much everything, and even if I really liked the idea of having the cabin feeling like a night club; even after all that, anyone who considers themselves a 'car person' would have to think twice about that, right? I mean, part of the divisiveness of this generation's C43, discussed even in this very thread, has been that e-turbo four-cylinder that seems to fly in the face of AMG purists. On paper it seems great. In real world application, it lags behind the other Germans if only slightly. Then there's the transmission issues that have been reported. For $300 less a month, I'm getting 505HP from a V6 and the ZF auto, but not just any V6 - All indications point to the very high probability that this V6 will most likely earn legendary status amongst enthusiasts when all the ICE plants go the way of the dinosaur. For $300 less a month, all those questions about "can that e-turbo 4 banger keep up?", or "is it slower than the outgoing V6?" or "Why is this car slower than the CLA45 when it has the same engine?"; all of that goes away. For $300 LESS a month.
As a fan of driving, as an enthusiast, or even as someone who just REALLY likes the color red, the Giulia QV was an exceptional proposition compared to the C43 at these prices, and one I absolutely could not say no to. It has to make you (brand-biased or not) at the very, very least - think twice, right? Can someone here convince me otherwise? Oh, and if a C63 pulls up beside me at a corner...
Cheers,
L.
