Haven't been here for a while, not sure why this forum entitled C63 AMG (w206) talks mostly about w205? In any case, many reports from many months ago about the C63 w206 suggested MB ditching the V8 for a full-on hybrid V4 (i.e., not just a 48v mild hybrid that the regular w206 cars will surely deploy) will be a done deal. However, recent information appears to put this assuredness into question.
Controversy surrounds the future of the much-loved 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 in the AMG C63; some reports suggest it’ll be ditched in favor of an extremely potent hybrid 2.0-litre unit producing north of 500 horsepower. However, nothing has been officially confirmed by AMG …we don’t mind hybridisation, but fingers crossed that V8 stays!
AMG models should start off with a C53 powered by a turbocharged inline-six and move up to a C63 with a 500-plus-hp twin-turbo V-8. A plug-in hybrid may be part of the lineup, too.
This latest information thus says the C63 w206 will now keep the V8 with an option to couple it with a full-on (i.e., not just 48v version) plug-in hybrid. That would be amazing if true!
Maybe with so much negative feedback about a V4 C63 and with the new BMW 2021 (G8x) M3/M4 having that atrocious beaver-tooth grille, MB is now rethinking it's previous plan to ditch the V8 to steal some of the M3/M4 market share. There may be hope.for the C63 w206 after all?
