While merging onto the highway, my wife was behind a car that came to a complete stop (because he apparently didn't know how to drive or merge). She was trapped behind him, honking at him to go, and within a couple seconds a pickup truck slammed into her going about 60mph with no attempt to brake (because apparently he didn't care to watch the road in front of him). Thankfully she and our dog are fine, but the car is totaled. We both loved that car. Can't say enough about Mercedes safety, because she was able to walk away (after crawling out the passenger door), although she is still in pain a couple months later.

Obviously yours is totaled, but there are probably parts left on it that have good value.
Whatever the salvage value is, you might be able to bid on the salvage title, and make some money out of it.

I appealed the initial low insurance payout and they increased it to make it in line with the average cost of the car today, so it's all good on that end.
I did look at the E53 cab quite a bit; never considered the roadster as we need something to at the very least carry my son and a friend. While I was considering the E53 and despite neither one of us wanting another BMW, my wife fell in love with the X3 M50, so we got that for her (even though she is the one who loves convertibles). After that, I decided I'd go with my own dream car, which was the AMG 4-door coupe. I've loved it for years. When I showed it to her, she also loved it, so it was all set.
I may still look for a 2-series cab or some such for a convertible as a higher-mpg option, so I'm certainly open to opinions about that (my daily commute is about 200 miles, so I'd like a 3rd car that may be a little fun and still with good MPG).
