Surround View Camera

Hi everyone,

My dealership has one of the first production slots for a 2016 for me, which means a September delivery. The Surround View camera is supposed to be available for the 2016, but apparently there is some kind of shortage. So I have two options.

1. Stay with my production slot and take delivery in September. No Surround View camera (just parktronic instead).

2. Wait until a later production date and get the Surround View Camera. Dealership said there might be a chance for October delivery, but most likely November.

I am inclined to go with option #1, but was wondering people's opinions on the Surround View system. Is it worth waiting 2 month (I realize this is somewhat subjective... but would YOU wait 2 months for you? How cool is it?).

Thanks.

If it was really going to be available for an October delivery, then I would wait. However, it was on my original order and then it disappeared when we checked today. I can't understand the supply issue on this option. It seems to have also been deleted on confirmed builds at my dealership for non-C63 units. How can you trust an order if things can change w/o notice?

I am not sure why you would need a surround view camera. A back-up camera with an audible warning I believe is plenty.
Unless of course you let your grandma drive the car and she needs to look thru the steering wheel to see. Sounds funny but I've seen it in S Florida.

I know it's silly but I love the surround view on my E63S and use it all the time, idk if it would be a deal breaker for me but I had a similar issue with rear heated seats on my order - looking back now I wish I would have waited till they got it resolved. Oh well.

does it help prevent you scratching your rims? (yes, yes, i know i can't park)

Also, my dealer also tells me I have the first slot... any dealer out there tell them that they have slot that's way out? How can they prove it?

Yes it does, you get a real good view of either the front wheels or rear wheels from the cameras mounted under the mirrors. I use it all the time for exactly that getting close to curbs/islands in parking lots without worry lol I can park (I think so at least) I'm just lazy

LOL you're not lazy, they make you lazy. I have it in my M4 and my wife laughs because I turn on all of my sensors whenever I'm in a parking situation -- even the easy situations. I even use it for our two car garage. Yeah, I should know my markers by now but nope, I turn on my cameras so I can see everything. I think I can still park without the cameras but haven't tested it in a while

If you live in a major metropolitan area, even if you're a good parallel parker, surround view is huge if you want to keep those rims free of curb rash.

I agree with your scenario. I've informed my sales person that if my allocation cannot have the 996pkg configured, then I will just wait until it becomes orderable. I'm not too interested in scuffing up the $1200 rims on the curbs here in NC.

I've been sent a few messages on this already....

1) There maybe issues within Ordering/Selecting Packages. Do not Panic.

2) I've been told it will be on MY 16.

3) You have plenty of time; just let it be.

4) DO NOT PANIC LOL

If your really set on features you want and can wait, then definitely wait and get what you wanted from the beginning.

With regards to the full surround viewing it's not an easy feature to install later on as it involves completely different mirror assemblies which contain the additional viewing cameras and is a very expensive exercise to retro fit later on.

A lot of people get caught up with not getting features to begin with to save money and/or delivery time and then trying to get them later on and then realising it would have been so much easier getting it from factory in the first place.

^^^^^This

I occasionally drive an E Class with this feature and regardless of whether you need it or not it's a great feature to have and always miss it when I get back into other cars without full surround viewing capability - it's all about situational awareness with these type of features and they can actually prevent unnecessary little accidents

Thanks. The dealer I'm working flat out said it won't be available . Any idea what the pricing will be?

I found out that the issue of the Surround View package not being orderable is due to the lack of supply of the 218 camera. This is the same one used for the rearview system (i e. the system uses two of these). The supplier is trying to catch up with the demand, but there is no date yet. The ordering guides for the C63 and for the C450 continue to show the 501 option. Fingers crossed that things might clear by October or Nov, but there is no indication that this will occur.
