Real world mpg?
i know buying a v8 we shouldnt care too much about the gas, but still it's nice to save where we can and just in general less trips to the gas station as it is a hassle.
im assuming you are still in break in period? perhaps it will get a little better after? and are you flooring it with those averages?
On a UK forum the first guy with a C63S to post has said he's got 32mpg on a motorway run. So in U.S. mpg that's 26.6 mpg and in litres per km it's 8.8km/litre. Based on where he said he'd gone from and to that's about an 80 mile journey and he said with light traffic.
So it seems it is achievable to get very close to Mercedes claimed figures. Could just be climate, lie of the land, traffic or just your still driving it a bit too hard that brings it down

As mentioned before we didn't buy a fast car expecting high mpg or really caring but I was curious if the new engine could be as fuel efficient as Mercedes claims.

Just wondering while most of you are still in your run in phase and having to hold back the beast, what sort of mpg are you getting?
Mercedes has some impressive claimed figures which no doubt are unachievable in the real world but what are you getting? Let us know how much city / highway driving that is for that figure and if you was driving normally
Oh and what country as mpg in U.S. and UK where I am for instance isn't the same. Happy with that km / litre deal as well as we can convert it.Be good if any of you had the first C63 to compare like for like trips and what difference your seeing. Not saying mpg is much of a problem when you can afford a car like this but just curious if Mercedes have managed to produce not only an amazingly powerful engine but one of the more fuel efficient ones as well. They claim it's the most fuel efficient V8 around.
Thanks all.

Sorry need to update the pic
The other reason I guess is the last gen C63 had a small tank with a big thirst. This one has the same sized tank so needs better mpg so you don't need to fill up as often. As it needs 98 RON fuel that means planning when I fill up as not all garages here sell it by a long shot. Life will be easier if the range is reasonably high.
Not cool if this thing is not going to give max performance at 91 octane. Kind of adds to the argument for getting tuned if I'm going to be getting all my gas at Union 76 stations & mixing anyway (76 stations around here have 100 octane unleaded, only 87/89/91 octane everywhere else).

You cannot actually get 98 RON fuel in the UK. Standard is 95 RON (93 AKI I believe), BP does an Ultimate fuel which is 97 RON, Shell and Tesco do a 99 RON fuel. So I'll be putting in 99 RON but means I can only fill up at Shell or Tesco.
So I think the fuel efficiency for me isn't so much about the cost, it's about not finding myself in a situation where possible that I need to put 95 RON in. I want to keep it to 99 RON only. Not a big country though, the UK. I could probably get to most places and drive back home in my diesel 335d without having to fill up. Not so with the C63S but hopefully will be able to find the right stations if needs be without too much fuss.
That or maybe it does need 98 RON / 93 AKI and people aren't aware? The first dealer I went to in the UK told me the car took 95 RON so some of them no doubt don't know either.
Be good to see a dyno of the car on 95 and 98 RON to see just what difference it does. Though according to the manual you shouldn't WOT with 95 RON.

City driving figures will probably be much harder to hit as your less likely to be taking it easy enough in such situations
To me that's extremely good. Obviously I'm running the car in but at the same time there's not so much scope to lower it when your cruising at highway speeds for ages. City driving of course will be a whole different ball game.
I believe when I filled up for the first time the car said it had a 360 miles of range. That's from a 66 litre tank that according to the manual has a huge 10 litre reserve which won't have been factored in on that range. So that's 360 miles from 56 litres of fuel. I guess if you do mostly city driving your going to want to almost half that distance.
If you was prepared to go into the reserve and doing highway with the higher mpg you'd probably be able to break 400 miles from a tank. For reference my diesel BMW 335d I traded in would get around 500 miles from a 57 litre tank though not sure how much of that was reserve. Once you factor in that diesels do much better mpg I think this is a great result for a car with around 200bhp more power and using a fuel with less efficiency.
Very pleased with my C63S so far and the fact it uses low amounts of fuel for what the engine is and capable of is a bonus.
Oh for reference I have a neighbour with a 320i (2 litre 4 pot) and she mostly just does city driving and I doubt pushes the car much at all. Her average is 28mpg UK. So 18 - 20mpg in the city if you pull that off to me again would seem rather damn good.
Another run was about 60 mile round trip across some lovely Scottish glens. Some overtaking and relatively brisk running saw an average of 49 mph over the journey and an average consumption of 17.8mpg. I didn't think that was too bad really.
Finally my commute to work at the moment is exactly 7 miles (normally it's 3 but staying in rental house while ours is renovated ahead of baby arriving). The average speed is 12mph and consumption is 18.4mpg. The stop start is kicking in all the time which must help consumption. I may turn it off one day to see the actual difference.
I picked up to Sat. also and have close to 150 miles on it most in heavy traffic at 19.9mpg so far.
What I hope is getting to 1000mi so I can get the mileage to GO DOWN.
then I know the fun is starting.
