Had a long chat with my dealer today about the HUD. The car has it provisioned but cannot be allocated with it. If one becomes available it will (in theory) automatically go on the car. I discussed postponing the build. The dealership themselves cannot allocate a HUD to any Mercedes for the currently available build slots. According to them this means that the earliest I could get a car with a HUD (IF it becomes available for allocation in the next month) would be September/October delivery. This, for me, is too long because I should get the car, as it is, at the end of next month.

This is what I was told by my dealer last month. Except my build was originally planned for the 3rd decade of August for early September pickup for European Delivery. I had to push my ED date back to October in order to ensure that the HUD is spec'd with the car. So one month delay to guarantee the HUD, which is not that bad for me.

So to clarify, it you look at your order today in Netstar, it's shows HUD on they option lust, and you have a confirmed, scheduled production date?

It's in my order confirmation/invoice for European Delivery pickup (I blanked out my personal info):

This is the Netstar screenshot I'm referring to. It's my understanding this is the ultimate record of the build order and scheduled production date.

Decisions, decisions.

I suspect I'm just going to forget the HUD. I don't really feel like waiting an extra 2-3 months (at least 2 extra months) for a non-essential item. I'm still pestering the dealer about it but they still can't guarantee anything even if I do wait. Thanks for posting the order Alex

Ah, I see. I'll see if I can get my dealer to send me over a screenshot from Netstar.

I've had a somewhat (very) ambiguous conversation with Mercedes UK about all this. All they have been able to tell me is that during August they MAY be able to provide a more accurate indication of when the HUD will become available again and that they were not able to release any other information. Obviously Mercedes Germany may have decided to prioritise the US customers, they may have supplied more reliable information to US dealers or even erroneous information.

Essentially I'm not any wiser than I was a month ago and will probably just leave the order as is because I would much rather have an Edition 1 C63 coupe without a HUD than a non Edition 1 version with a HUD.

More likely the Vance, AL (US) plant already has an earlier allocation of these parts. MB is not in the business of warehousing parts. Their OEMs are shipping direct to the manufacturing divisions whenever possible.

What's the difference between ed1 and non ed1 anyway?

We don't have edition 1 available to build on the USA sight. Only C63 and C63s.

From memory:

Matt carbon fiber center console (cannot be optioned in UK)
Yellow stitching inside - see my post here: https://mbworld.org/forums/c43-amg-c...ml#post6826634
I think yellow illuminated door sills.
Steering wheel has Edition 1 on it
Roof and hood stripe
Side stripes
Different front and rear splitters - front has a lower lip, rear is deeper I think.
700BHP.

Ok the last bit might have been a teeny lie
All changes are just cosmetics and perhaps not to everyone's tastes. I'm not sure I will stick with the hood and roof stripe although I think I probably will.

I assume most options can be purchased later although probably not cost effectively (interior in particular). I know mode carbon do a copy of the front lip.

Overall in the UK you pay roughly £2000 extra for the bits and bobs

Here's a grey Edition1 you can just see the lower lip .... oh look it has a bloody HUD.

It looks very sharp.
So ED1 are basically limited edition versions only built during the launch of the new model?

This makes sense now. The C63/63S coupe is not yet available for config on MBUSA so that's why the ED1 isn't there yet. Seems like you folks in the UK get all the goodies about 6 months ahead of us.

AFAIK the Edition 1 is built in unlimited numbers but for a limited period for the UK and other markets. I don't know why you guys don't get it at all. I have been told that you can get the Edition 1 in the UK for the first year but I've also been told that it is less than that, dealers seem to be pretty vague about it.

The one thing I do notice on all these docs is that the HUD is supposed to be available with August production cars. If that is correct then I would only have to wait a month to get a HUD. Unfortunately no-one in the UK connected with Mercedes seems to be able to give me a reliable answer on this.

EDIT:
My dealer is offering a duplicate spec car for the end of October but still can't put a HUD on it (although probably will be able to before the spec gets locked). A 3 month extra delay doesn't feel worth it to me especially when there is still no guarantee of getting a HUD.

Continental is beginning to roll out high quality "combiner" HUDs. These are an aftermarket add on. Rather than use projection they use a translucent surface mounted on the dash. This will be a good option for HUD retrofits in the near future.

That is amazing MB is going to ship it Germany from the US, then back to the US.

Correct, all C-Class Coupes are built in Sindelfingen (right outside Stuttgart). All C-Class sedans for the US market are built in US (Alabama factory). So European Delivery is only available for Coupes.

Alex did you get a response from your dealer about the Netstar confirmation regarding the HUD? I discussed the fact that you had been able to order the car with a HUD in the US but my dealer suggested that, whilst Mercedes USA may know something Mercedes UK don't, they are probably just "assuming" the HUD will be available in October without actually attaching one "virtually" to the car.

My spec is now locked without the HUD but I'm still discussing the possibility of switching to an available October car to get a HUD. My dealer insists that he simply cannot allocate a HUD to ANY car for whatever date on the Mercedes system. My opinion, for what it's worth, is that those people who have orders on with a HUD for delivery in October are not guaranteed a HUD, their dealer is just assuming (perhaps correctly) that HUDs will be available by then and so stick it on the order. When I placed my order the dealer put it on the list but happened to update it to the main system the same day because they were trying to get a July build slot.

Another, completely seperate, dealer contacted me today and confirmed that HUDs are not available and can't be attached to any car up to December.

HUD now available to order!

My dealer informed me today HUD was able to be added to my existing order for a 2017 C63S coupe, and the scheduled production date moved up from 1st decade of Sept. to 2nd decade of August, for US delivery. He provided screenshots from Netstar to confirm. Netstar also now includes the MSRP for the base car + all the options!

Can you name the price for the options you've got?
