360 degree camera controller

There is now a plug in unit that will give you control of your 360 degree camera. (This is only for cars that already have the 360 degree camera factory option)

This unit gets hooked up to a power, a ground and the can bus and that's it. Once it is hooked up it gives you the ability to-

Turn your camera on with your steering wheel buttons.

Set your camera to come on automatically below 5 M.P.H.

Turn your camera on anytime you shift into Drive, not just after coming from Reverse.

It comes with an analog trigger that can be combined with a curb alert system to turn the camera on when your front bumper gets close to an obstacle.

I'd be curious to see more comprehensive information on this as well.

I would love to have the ability to record the 360 camera view onto an SD card or USB drive -- is this possible with this unit? Would make for an excellent integrated dash cam.

As soon as they have that information up I will link it. It is from Mid City Engineering which is a well known company for integrated Mercedes Benz electronics but it is a very new product so I am the first one to have them. I know that this is a product that will be very popular with the forum and I wanted to get it out to you guys fast.

Adding more cameras to the car seems a waste when our cars have 360 degree cameras already.

Hopefully someone designs this soon, would have been a great factory option from Mercedes.

I'm not sure about other countries but in the UK - if you have a camera with a record function the Police can seize it and analyse any footage you have recorded which, of course, might incriminate the driver even if it isn't connected to the event they've seized the camera for. This may be why cameras do not have the ability to record events as standard.
