Anyone Here Take Their AMG to Laguna Seca?

Hey all,

I've recently been hanging out the Bay Area and am itching to rip my AMG down Laguna Seca.

I can't join AMG Academy since I bought my car in Canada (doesn't come with a free voucher).

Have any of you managed to find a track day at Laguna Seca? If so, mind telling me what organization/event you used?

I've scheduled with Northern California Racing Club for December, but I'm not sure as to whether these guys are reputable.

I have run with NCRC and they are reputable but I do not like the way they run their organization. I would recommend TrackMasters or Hooked on Driving. look at this thread before you go: https://mbworld.org/forums/c43-amg-c...track-day.html

Really enjoyed reading your experiences at Thunderhill. Your tires expanding to above 50psi though...that's crazy.

I noticed Hooked On Driving charges much more for their track day. Why do you recommend them over NCRC?

You CAN do the AMG Academy --You just have to pay for it. I did the free one at LS and then 3 days at COTA. Good part is you use up THEIR tires and brakes.

HoD runs a very good ship. Very safety conscious; good instructors; right size run groups. I have not run with NCRC in many years but when I left, they were getting pretty commercial, doing it for the money (HoD does as well) and allowed too many aggressive drivers for my comfort. Check out Track Masters (Doug Gale's group). He formed it out of concerns with NCRC and that is where a bunch of us went; including myself. He does not seek profit and has a great safety record as well but the groups tend to be a bit larger to compensate on the price. That is also why HoD is a bit more expensive as they limit group sizes to keep it manageable and increase track enjoyment.

There really isn't a "bad" group to run with and I would actually encourage you to try several to see which you like more and are most comfortable with. In the end, you can run with any group that fits your schedule and comfort level. Good luck.
