How is the Burmester sound system?

Looking at possibly getting into a C63S (sedan) when my M3 lease is up later this year. The stock HK system in the M3 was crap until I replaced all the speakers with BAVSound upgrades - now it sounds great.

How is the stock Burmester system? I'm no audiophile, but it has to sound good. I mostly listen to rock.

Thanks!

Could be better, much better.

Set surround sound ON
treble at 6
Mid to 0
Bass to 9

Sounds good !!!! I like it compared to stock BMW or Audi systems

i only get to test mine so far havent picked up car yet. from initial tests it was better than the last gen tho.

It's fine but not great. Muddy bass and vocals. Better than most base systems but can't hold a candle to a high quality system like the Mark Levinson in Lexus.

It's all about the SOURCE. Burmester in GT actually sounds good with tidal HD hooked directly to USB port.

I just listen to the exhaust! ;)

not bad afterall, but could be better imo

In the C63S Coupe I personally think the Burmester sound system is overrated. It's better than the HK from my 2009 C63 sedan by that system was very subpar sound quality wise. Then again I'm pretty picky and am comparing to the aftermarket amps/processor/sub we put into my wife's SUV. I'll probably end up adding the same type of setup to my C63S but if your not an audiophile the stock system will work out fine for you. Good luck on your car search - can't go wrong with any AMG :-)

I actually prefer the HK system from earlier Mercedes to the Burmester, which seems to have trouble with high pitched noises. I made a thread in the W205 regular sedan forum about my C300, which I picked up when they first came out in late 2014 - the speakers CONSTANTLY rattle - it's a well noted problem. Better in my C63S coupe, but still there - meanwhile, HK system in my G wagon is amazing

Sanch 02-08-2017 10:19 PM

Definitely could be much much better... It lacks bass IMO. A sub would be ideal.

tekfoc 02-09-2017 04:10 PM

it sucks. I prefer the HK in my old 45 AMG

Im with u on this one.

My wifes w204 with HK sounded a lot better than our BMW F30 335i's HK and our C63S's Burmister.

I added a couple of subs to the C63S to add some bass to the system.

Its ts much better now.

The one thing I have noticed with the Burmester is you really have to screw with the settings to get it to sound ok. I think I'm at 3/4/10 on the treble/mid/bass settings. Turning surround to "front" also made a big difference but really lessened the sound stage. If they would just allow more tuning to the settings it would probably be a great system. As for the prior HK systems they were a lot less finicky.

It's alright, nothing special. Not as nice as the Meridian Surround in the Jaguar XJ I had before, but added road noise doesn't help

larvid 02-11-2017 07:24 AM

Just ok. Nothing special, actually somewhat disappointing in a car of this caliber. It lacks punch. And the high end is adequate, and nothing more.

PM Mike5215 or check out his thread on this topic in the C Class forum or on his blog here https://w205audio.wordpress.com/

He is quite knowledgeable and has made some specific modifications to improve the system in his C Class.

RDO247 02-11-2017 09:00 PM

I added a couple of JL Slimline 13.5" Subs & 1000W amp to fill the missing bass.

Huge difference in sound and volume.

Wow, that guy is like Doctor Car Stereo. His analysis is incredible.

Anyone here followed his blueprint?

AmexWest 02-13-2017 05:07 PM

Porsche offers the Burmeister as an upgrade over the usual Bose. So was really disappointed to find it not as enjoyable as the Bang Olufsen in my 2013 Q5.

One thing Mike5215 pointed out in his teardown of the audio system is that in the Mercedes C class, there are no actual Burmester audio components in the system. None. That was surprising to me!
