sir, one piece of advice.... i wouldnt show those pics to any insurance adjuster with the story of hitting a raccoon. and here is why.... was the raccoon shaved? i mean hairless? was the raccoon dead and no blood left in it? just saying because from the pics i viewed i dont see any evidence of hitting any sort of animal.
if the engine is dead... IF. and if the adjuster has half a brain and is decent at his profession... he/she is going to have some hard questions for you sir.

WE FIGURED IT OUT WHY CAR DID NOT SHOW ENGINE PRESSURE OIL WARNING! BECAUSE M176 M177 M178 ENGINES DO NOT HAVE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SENSOR AT ALL!!! SERIUSLY, ONLY THING WE HAVE ARE ENGINE OIL LEVEL AND TEMP SENSOR, OIL LEVEL SENSOR CAN NOT DETECT QUICK LEAK. BE CAREFUL EVERYBODY! CAR WONT TELL YOU IT IS LEAKING OIL! Unless your engine is consuming or losing engine oil slowly believe its design flaw.
Car still has about 2L oil left inside.
Drain oil, fixed oil cooler, put oil in and started engine, noise gone in 5 seconds.(Lifter knock) But has 3 related camshaft minor fault codes. Wait for further road test result.
Found new broken part, AC condenser.

My Q is, do you think I have any argument here on the grounds of design flaw or ineffective oil cooler protection?

I'm wondering why no pictures of the Raccoon? It certainly would have helped to verify with the insurance company. The off roading certainly doesn't help the cause. They could claim damage was done prior to any animal encounter.

Unless he washes the car there are likely bits of flesh and blood to be found on the under-carriage. Remember that the OP was probably well down the road before he realized anything was amiss and did not have the means to go back and retrieve the carcass. I'm convinced that one does not make up a story like this.

I believe..just happened to me last night. Hit a 40 + lb raccoon with my car
Wow..at first glance survey without lifting it up..
.Tore my oilpan cover up left major oil leak. Oil sensors snapped off. lower radiator hose almost off at clamp Radiator support and clip broke Fan guard cracked crossmember thingy bent broke my exhaust weld . fur stuck all in lower front in radiator and shocked me to find oil filter dented and leaking badly. My car literally lifted up when the raccoon balled up n got bunched up directly in the little pocket by oul filter im guessing and second bump at exhaust weld and third big bump when it got ran over by my back tire. Couldnt believe it charged directly at me right dead center on a full run! On highway. I was going 60mph. That critter gonna cost me a ton. But it will only do that once thats for sure. Judging by the blood n fur under my undercarriage. Smells too when engine gets hot. Eww. Total disaster. Did almost as much damage as the deer i hit last year - the hood n bumper. What a mess! Heading out to take closer look. But i believe. Cuz it happened to me. You will believe when it happens to you. Til then dont judge or draw conclusions you have no direct knowledge of. . guessing u just dont have enough life experience under ur belt yet. Trust me. It happens in a blink of an eye. Always stay vigilant and aware on the road. Take care

Anyways, so bit off topic but glad it wasn't a dog, otherwise...
No animals were harmed during the filming of this video, professional animal actors don't try this at home.

zunsport.com. They make high quality radiator mesh screens for our cars. Very affordable and an easy install.
The photos convince me... that raccoon was a monster and proof of grieving family... "He was a good boy, he never hurt nobody." Better hope they don't contact their attorney.
