Brake pedal went immediately mushy - need advice!!!

Gents,

I was driving my 2015 C63S on the freeway today and I noticed that my brake pedal suddenly got a very mushy feeling to it. The stopping power was still effective, but I could easily push the pedal almost to the floor.

Shortly thereafter an idiot light came on saying to add brake fluid. When I put the car in my garage I half expected to see a puddle of brake fluid under the car shortly thereafter, but there wasn't a drop.

I can easily add some brake fluid tomorrow but I am wondering if this is normal to experience such a rapid degradation of brake pedal feel just because the fluid level is low. Seems more like a catastrophic leak. Or does this sound more like a master cylinder failure?

I will add fluid but I am wondering if it will fix the problem. I am curious for input from the smart people on this forum. Thanks in advance! Best regards to all.

I'm not familiar with this particular car yet but I've never heard of that happening in any car that is just low. It sounds like you have a major leak. Brake fluid doesn't usually just get randomly low either.

You may not be seeing a puddle if you lost it all on the roadway. Have you checked the brake lines to see if they are cracked? That would be my first thought.

If it is low enough to get air in the line it will need to be bleed and not just add fluid so take it in to dealer.
