on subject of winter tires, does anyone have a recommendation for a preferred winter tire for use in the NJ/NY area? Looking to invest in a set for winter driving as I am told the stock summer tires will have you sliding around a lot on cold days in northeast.

depends on whether your vehicle is the c63 or c63s and also whether it is the coupe or the sedan. my c63s stock rims are 8.5j and 9.5j with 19 diameter ie sedan . on this vehicle , it can fit michellin PA4s or conti 830p or Pirelli sottozero 240(0r 270) on 245 width and 35 profile front and 265 rear (though a square set up of 245 width at the rear may be preferable for snow). I went 265 because it doesn't show where I am that often at all. My winter rubber is the Michelin Alpin PA4.
if you have an expert tyre fitter around where you are , you could look into whether the best winter performance tyre will fit your car, i.e. conti 860s , the issue is they only do the 245 fronts in 40 profile not 35. your tyre fitter may be able to tinker with the widths.
Wow, amazing response and truly appreciate the details, however, I have a C63s coupe. (Sorry for not clarifying). That said, any recommendations for tires or even a good tire shop that folks trust in North NJ?
Not an engine builder (but a bit of a freak). I have always believed in lots of heat cycles and load variability, with increasing load over time. I generally follow the manual guidelines for the maximum initial load, but believe that variability of engine speeds / lots of temperature change is potentially more important...so the engine can heat up and cool down over and over again. As the miles increase, I tend to up the RPM limit (maybe by 500 miles) for a few seconds here and there for the next 100 miles, then up the limit a bit more (maybe another 500 RPMs) for a few seconds here and there for hundred miles, then up it again (maybe 500 more RPM) for a few seconds here and there the next hundred miles...and so on. Once you get past 1000 miles, I feel like it is cool to run higher and more sustained loads.
You should get to the dealership on day of delivery. Otherwise you cannot tell how many techs took your car for a full-throttle “pre-delivery inspection” around the block a few miles.
I was pretty pissed off to find my ‘03 S55 had 27 miles on the odometer. My bad for not planning to take time off on a Wednesday when it was dropped off. It was the first model year with the supercharger.

i have a coupe and drive it in the winter here in toronto. I use michellin alpins on a 255/35/19 square setup all around. Bought a set of winter rims to go with this setup as well.
