2019 C63: Locking differential oil change
#26
On the topic of oil changes, any of y’all planning an early engine oil change?
I entertained the idea of changing at 1K miles but my service advisor talked me out of it saying it wasn’t necessary. Might do one at 5K. Thoughts?

It isn't 1998 anymore. You'll be fine with what you SA recommends.

Per the head tech at my dealer, the 2K mile differential oil change is required on the mechanical differentials ('15-'18 C63) and never truly was required on the electronic differentials (all C63S and '19+ C63). No one at MB/AMG ever really updated the manuals/stickers/guidelines to reflect this and just kept with the same old adage that any AMG with a locking rear diff needed the service. Now with the '19 C63 coming standard with the electronic differential, all has been updated to reflect that the 2K mile service isn't needed.
If you want to change it, go for it. More than likely won't hurt anything. But it isn't (and wasn't) required anymore.

The same reason they don't require a transmission service or an engine oil change at 2k miles either. It isn't the 1990's anymore.

What do you mean by dealer honoring it, I'm sure they're happy to take our money even if the service is unnecessary.

I have 1,400 miles and will call Dealership this week to see what's what. If they say we will do it then I'll bring it in.

Any updates? I just broke 2k on mine and am looking at what it'll take to DIY the oil change vs. having a dealership do it. If they do it free of charge (unlikely) then it'd totally be worth having them do the change.

My 2019 C63S Coupe definitely had the exact same sticker, so either there's no QC over at the factory and they're just putting stickers in ***** nilly, or maybe some dealers accidentally removed that one in the process of removing all the other protective coverings and stickers that come on the car from the factory?
I agree - it'd be nice if there was some form of consistency from MB on this. Spending the time / money to change the oil may not be much, but if you kill your rear diff and they point to a lack of oil change as the reason, it could mess with a warranty claim.

Interesting...
I called and asked a local dealership about it and they were more than happy to tell me it needed to be done, and also quoted $300ish for it, so I don't have a lot of faith in that dealership anymore. Hell, they wanted $42 for ONE of the replacement drain plugs for the diff cover.
I'm going to do the change because, as others have pointed out - it can't hurt, and the questionable nature of the need tells me to lean on the side of caution.

Getting mine done next thursday free of charge as stated in the brochure. They advised it has been removed from the service schedule but due to the inconsistent nature of the information available, they will honour it should i choose to go for it.

What brochure? Is it something from your dealership or an after-market maintenance plan you purchased?

I just received this. So I guess I’ll book it in when I get to that mileage.

Hey Guys,
I'm new to the forum and I had previously owned a C250. I have finally upgraded to my dream car. I bought a 2019 C63s Sedan and picking it up on the 27th June. I'm super excited and will checking these forums regularly.
I'm based out of Melbourne, Australia and I'm so confused with a few things. I'll be speaking to my SA and figuring it all out but I wanted to be prepared before I asked for anything or making sure its all hunky dory.
If you guys can help with the following that would be awesome.
1- Break in period - some owners saying it is not necessary
2- Diff oil change - I'm on a free 3 year servicing plan, will this be required? If it is I know it will be included.
3- I'm a bit worried about the pops and crackles conversations going on in different threads. The Australian version of the C63s - is this going to be affected by quieter exhausts due to the EU regulations?
4- Is paint protection worth it? or interior leather protection from permaguard? The dealer is trying to sell me that post the sale. I was thinking a clear PPF or a stain finish. (the color of my car is Selenite Grey - metallic with black multi-spoke wheels)
When I test drove the 2019, it was loud and popping and crackling all along the test drive. I pushed it pretty hard.
Any input be highly valued.
Thanks
Luqman
Any thoughts and suggestions will be welcomed.

The facelift has a deeper tone which sounds louder.
Pops and crackles is a different issue which will hopefully be addressed.
Personally, I prefer the odd ‘rifle shot ‘ crackle or two. No more.

My 2019 E63S just had its rear-end oil changed for free on the prepaid maintenance plan. This dealer, at least, has not had any instruction to stop doing this and they are quite a large AMG center.

I have no idea why so many people say to ignore the break-in instructions. Why would the builder of these great engines specify them if they didn't promote longevity, low oil consumption, strong output, etc.? They know owners would prefer to just lay on the throttle from day one, so why would they frustrate owner satisfaction for no reason? I take the opinion of AMG engineering over random enthusiasts and have had good luck with my 7 AMGs.
