The last of the C63's?

I was at my dealership today, and the General Manager told me that 2019 would be the final year that Mercedes AMG would offer a hand-built engine for the C63 or C63s models. In 2020 (and presumably from then on out), the C63 and C63s will feature a factory-built engine.

Can anyone definitively confirm or deny this? Are we living in the last year of the "one-man-one-machine" era for C-Series cars?

I certainly hope that isn't the case, but if so, 2019 will be an interesting collector's year for these cars--the only model year with the facelift and new tech, but still featuring a hand-built engine.

No changes for MY20 and in the future engines will still be hand-built, question is how many cylinders they will be

Sounds like a shady general manager was trying to sell you a ‘19 C63 to me.

That GM either has no clue or has a strange sales tactic. The current C63 has probably two more model years and it's going to be built the same way it's been built so far. The MY2020 order guide is already out and it's the same car minus a few option changes. The V8TT is hand built in Affalterbach and nowhere else. From there they ship the engine within a 4 hour window to the plant in Bremen, where the final car is assembled and to Alabama and South Africa plants where the sedans are built. I was there about a month ago getting a private tour. They are building engines on two levels and aside from the GT and GT4 is all they do there. They are now ramping up to build an all-new 2.0T engine for the upcoming all-new AMG A45. It's hand-built as well, but this one is a 4-cylinder engine. The 43 and 53 engines are factory-built and will probably stay that way.

We'll have to see what the next generation C63 will look like. We pretty much know it's gonna be AWD and will have some electrification due to the ever stringent emissions regulations in Europe. Could be a V6 Hybrid or there has even been a rumor of a V4 Hybrid. Time will tell, but it won't hit the market until MY2022 or 2023.
