Changes to Order

How long before scheduled production date can you normally make changes to an order such as options, colors, etc?

If you have a good sales associate, you’re supposed to be able to make changes all the way up to the beginning of production.

I had no idea when orders get "locked down" at Benz (I think it differs from one manufacturer to another) but apparently I had plenty of time. Made the changes with my dealer today for October build. Switched from standard C63 Coupe to "S" model but kept all the options I had already chosen with exception of wheel code moving from 662 to 767 (20" rears on S model) . It will be, by about a $10K margin, the most expensive car I've ever owned (MSRP = $85K) but I figured at this point I might as well go all in. With the help of some folks on this thread and some online research, I identified a few things on the S that I think I would have regretted not having on the standard model. For me the price difference was a bit less than $5K, which was right at my "justification" level, and for those of you old enough to remember the film Risky Business...sometimes you just gotta say "What The F**k" and go for it !!!

This is not quite accurate. The system locks in certain changes as the production date approaches. There are different stages where some changes may be possible but some are locked. This can be accessed real time. If your sales rep is directly accessing the system then they can do it while you are there with them. If they have to take notes and have their managers do it then yeah sometimes they may give you inaccurate info about when the order is locked.
