PE muffler delete?

What is stopping me from just deleting the mufflers with a straight section on my performance exhaust car? I assume if I was to use AWE valve simulators, there should be no problem just chopping them out and adding in a straight pipe section there? I've been thinking about getting the AWE track exhaust but it's essentially just a straight pipe catback setup, so I'm wondering if it even makes sense to spend the money VS just doing the same to the stock exhaust. The only thing is that I know the AWE track is 3" and I THINK the stock exhaust is 2.5", is that right? The only negative I can think of, unless I'm missing something, is if i want with the AWE track catback I could switch back to stock if I ever wanted.

I think overall, you are correct, nothing is special about it, since it is a striaght pipe ) <- track version....

I have seen a couple c63s's with shop made straight pipes, although I didnt look under the car to see what was done in detail.

Yes AWE track is 3", and it's basically straight pipe. The rear mufflers are their own section and come off, you won't need to cut them. Just have some shop measure up some SS pipes from the end of the stock valves to the tips.

Is our factory diameter 2.5"? The track exhaust might be a bit deeper in tone.

Sorry to bump again but does anyone know our size? My exhaust guy thinks (over the phone) that it'd be 2.75". If that's the case I'll just have the end portion pulled off and made into straight pipe as it should sound almost the same as the AWE track exhaust. I just need to figure out what I'm going to do before I actually drop my car off, where of course, he could just measure it.
