Question Lag after the engine restarts (Start/Stop system induced?)

Test drove a 2017 C63s Cabriolet over the weekend and loved the power, looks and handling. The car has 52,000 miles on it. I did notice what seemed like a serious lag when the engine Start/Stop eco mode kicked in. Here is how it worked

- I came to a complete stop in Comfort mode and the engine shut off
- Lifted my foot of the break and the engine started again
- Quickly pushed the gas pedal and... nothing... for 2 seconds
- Finally, the revs started building and the car took off like a wild animal

So, 2 seconds seems like a VERY long time. Not sure if this is something others have experienced before or if it is an indication of a problem with the transmission or another drivetrain component.

The other minor issue I noticed was discoloration near the G in the AMG at the bottom of the steering wheel. Looks like small black circles.

The sport seats look amazing but are pretty hard. Since my drive is about 30 minutes to the office, they should be OK.

Please give me your feedback on the lag issue and feel free to comment on anything else. I am hoping to join the C63 owner's club soon but not in a hurry. Thank you!

2 seconds lag would be an issue...
Have dealer perform PIP and tell them about this lag issue...

can always just press the ECO button and turn off that feature.

I don't mind it saving gas when in traffic so I would rather it work properly. I assume PIP is something like pre-purchase inspection?

To be honest, the ECO start/stop is the first thing I turn off right after starting the car. If I forget, I turn it off immediately the first time it stops the engine. I turned it on a few times in really bad stop&go traffic, but in those situations I usually have DISTRONIC and Active Steering turned on and I just chill letting the car follow the traffic. I have not noticed any delays with that approach, but mine is a 2019. I would expect a slight delay for the engine to get ready again, but 2 seconds seems long. Mercedes actually does auto start/stop better than others. They stop the engine such that one cylinder is in the firing position, so they can instantly start it by injecting fuel and firing that cylinder. It's one of the smoothest and most instantaneous engine restarts I've experienced so far.

Exactly. And that's what's making me wonder if it's an indication of an issue. Appreciate your feedback!

There’s a lag but I don’t think it 2 second. I didn’t like the lag on mine either. So what I did was took my foot off the brake early before the traffic light turn green. This allow the tranny to fully re-engaged again before I step on the gas paddle.

Yeah, quickly taking the foot off the brake and changing to the throttle will definitely result in a delay. The transmission etc. won't be ready right away to move the car. One doesn't have to fully take the foot off the brake for the engine to restart. It restarts as soon as one lets off the brake a little bit, so I think the best experience is when slowly releasing the brake as the traffic is about to move and then change over to the throttle at which point the transmission etc. should be ready to go.
