I'm curious about this too. I just bought a 2017 C63S Coupe a few weeks ago and noticed this sound also. I'm assuming it's the Direct Injection Fuel pump as my old GT86 did the same noise, but would like to hear other owner's opinions.

C63s, the good sounding one
I have a 2018, it does not make those noises. I will assume that you have topped off the oil, on a flat surface and that it has the correct viscosity.

In in the video, it seems to quiet down after a few seconds. Is that your experience?

I just got a fresh oil change from dealer a week prior to the video and the sound does not quiet down, It quiets down in the video because I started to film it with my phone as close to the side of engine as possible and I moved it to body distance as if you popped the hood and was looking at it.

Mine is also a 2017 and have gotten warranty work done recently so if it isn't suppose to sound like this i would think the dealer would have said something? But who knows

Ticking noise

It does sound louder than normal, does the noise reduce as it warms up?
it’s the sound more pronounced on one bank compared to the other?
These engines have soft foam covers over the injectors and HPFP”s to reduce the noise from these components, it’s unlikely but possible they led these off during service, they easy to see if you remove the air filter housings. It’s a good starting point at trying to narrow it down

You did not mention that you physically checked the oil, It's the easiest place to start. Since the noise remains consistent, even after running a couple of minutes, It's unlikely that low oil is the culprit. However, accidents happen and it wouldn't be the first time a car didn't get the oil topped off after a dealer change.

Good luck.

The video was taken after driving for 30 mins and car fully warmed up. As for the sound it appears on both sides of the engine and is very very slightly louder on the drivers side but you would only tell the difference if you popped the hood and put your ear right next to the engine. Does this sound like a loud fuel injector?

Yea I checked the dipstick a day after the oil change and its at the perfect level. They replaced my belt tensioner under warranty so the Tech must have heard this sound when diagnosing a pulley chirp but everything runs fine.

It’s hard to say without seeing it in person, the fact you mentioned it sounds uniform from one side of the engine to the other leads me to think it’s not anything serious. The DI injectors are noisier than standard injectors, the only way to prove it is the injectors is by using xentry and doing a cylinder cutout test and see if the noise changes. I would take the air filter housings off first and check the sound insulation was reinstalled first.

Alright thank you so much for your thought! At first I thought it was piston slap but it does not increase in sound when rpm goes up so I feel much more relieved Lol

Could be just loud injectors. Have you heard Infiniti 5.6L V8? They sound like Diesel engines.

I have the same sound on my new to me 2017 c63. I bought the car cpo'd so I assume they would have noticed the noise during inspection if it wasn't normal. My ticking sound is loud even when the hood is closed you can still hear it ticking loudly from the driver side of the engine. It starts after the car is started and sometimes quiets down briefly then comes back but most of the time its ticking. I am going to the dealer for them to check it out and I also have a leak coming from the under the car next to the front passenger side wheel. I posted a sound file in my thread here: https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-c63s-...your-help.html

@benz63guy yea same for me man, even with the hood closed you can hear it slightly but I honestly don't think its any serious problem because the sound is mostly uniform on both sides of the engine and in this guys video you can also hear the same sound from his motor also. I went to go look at another c63s before the one i bought and recorded the engine and the sound is also present. As for your leak I never experienced that so you should have that checked out. Use your warranty man!!! Lol
But still please keep me updated on what the dealer says about the ticking sound and leak so I know what I can look out for. Thanks!!!
