Angry Performance Seats - Seatbelt Issues

Forgive me if this has already mentioned here but I wanted to see if you guys have the same issue and if there's solution...

On my performance seats when there's no front passenger, the seatbelt keeps knocking on the seat side-airbag plastic when driving (coming to a stop and accelerating, hitting road bumps, and turns) which it:

1. makes knocking noise and becomes annoying after a while.
2. scrapes the airbag plastic surface.

I've heard it happening in my car as well. I moved the seat forward and it seems to have helped reduce it.

There is a magnet ( atleast on the sedans ) where you can pin it to. Its above the airbag thing close to the head rest area if I remember correctly.

Why not just engage (fasten) the seat belt and snug up the belt?

Yep, this is normal. I just moved the passenger seat forward enough to avoid it. Thankfully my wife is short, so with her normal seating position it's never an issue. I just had to check about there supposedly being a magnet, but there isn't. The other alternative is to just fasten it if nobody is in the passengers seat. I do that with the rear seat belts, because they also tend to bang against the plastic covers otherwise.

Yeah, I checked our coupes don't have the magnet... My wife moves the seat all over depending on if she's taking a nap or doing her makeup (which is not allowed in my book) and it becomes very inconvenient to fasten the seatbelt or moving the seat around to avoid the bang. I guess world is experiencing bigger problems now than my little seatbelt issue lol

I stored the normal position in the seat memory, so if my wife moves the seat or somebody else is riding in my car I can quickly adjust it afterwards by just recalling the stored position. I haven't tried this yet, but it might even be possible doing so with a voice command. I've used voice command to turn off the seat heater if it was left on by the previous passenger.

I have this problem too and I think one solution might be to get some black felt to stick on both sides of the plastic on the belt clip. The female clip has it on the outside to not rattle against the center console. I'm going to try to find some that would look and feel good so it doesn't take away from the interior quality.

I have the same issue in my 2018 Coupe.

If nobody riding with me I usually put my backpack in the passenger seat and connect the seatbelt over the backpack...two reasons as follows:

1) Stops the seatbelt rattle
2) Keeps my backpack on the seat in the event of a quick stop

Just my 2 cents on how I deal with the issue...

Thanks for your responses and suggestions guys! I still think we shouldn't have this issue to begin with when buying a car for almost 100k

I'll take some of your advises for sure!

Yes and no. The challenge with aggressively contoured sport seats like the Performance Seats is having enough room to fit the airbag. Manufactures have two options, they can either leave the airbag off, or compromise and fit one that's protruding. AMG chose the latter, because in the USA for example front passenger seat airbags are mandated by law, and w/o them the Performance Seats couldn't be sold here. This is the case with some other manufacturers that chose to leave the airbag off and therefore can't sell the seats in the USA. For example Audi used to offer seats similar to the Performance Seats in the RS and R8 models, but they were never available in the USA due to not having an airbag. Personally, I'd rather deal with the compromise than not being able to get the seats in the first place.

I never inspected the coupe that closely but would have thought they have the same seatbelt retainer and automatic seatbelt extender (not sure what that thing is called where the seatbelt gets handed to you on an arm that extends, have it on our BMW coupe) which prevents the seatbelt dangling around there.

Yes, we do have the seat belt extender/presenter, but that doesn't keep the seat belt buckle from swinging around. It just extends from where the seat belt comes out of the B-pillar
