My experience with metal ticking sound when turning
Pretty sure it was not the cold tire (ultimately an Ackerman Steering Angle) issue, since the noise was different. The noise came from both front wheels only when turning sharp.
Here's a video sample of what the noise was like :
Had a trip to the dealer ship and they took several days to discover that it was front wheel bearing issues. And it seems that the noise is gone after replacing both the front wheel bearings.
The car is around 26,000 miles, never tracked. I have no idea why the wheel bearings would have issue like these, nor did I never hear same issues from anyone else.
Anyway, just sharing my experience here if you had similar issues.
Have been told it could also be due to the wheels contacting with the hub/brake disc hat but I doubt it since I can also hear a smooth metal on metal rubbing sound at very low speeds while driving straight, sounds kind of like stepping on and holding the brakes a tiny bit.
Booked a trip to the dealer next week and see what they say.
Suddenly, within a week, my 2006 W211 E350 (at 110,000 km) developed a noisy clunk type abnormal sound that seemed to come from the front-end on the left side. To hear the noise best I turned off the air-con system. When manually shoving down on that side above the wheel arch a trace of clunk could be heard.
I suspected upper or lower facing front suspension arms (many replaced before), a bad wheel bearing or shock, engine mounts or maybe even something to do with the rack and pinion steering mounts.
Today I picked her up after inspection and service. The front end clunking was caused by the front anti-roll bar.
First, they removed the entire anti-roll bar assembly, test drove and the clunk vanished. Then they replaced the linkages on both sides and all rubber bushings. Now the suspension is as quiet as when new. The wheel alignment had to be also done and I always have to remind mechanics that the steering wheel must never be off center when the car is on flat, level concrete, as within a car park for example. But everything seems to have been repaired well this time so am very happy and off for a country run tomorrow :-)

On a side note in very rare cases it can be popping noises from your rotors being filled witih brakedust and pressure building up into the little clogged holes but i am almost certain its a bearing noise.

Both my cars had it. C63s only has aftermarket wheels with stock brakes. The other car has aftermarket wheels and bbk. Both lubed up and no more sound.
