Heat Exchanger Guards

I had to take the front bumper off to replace a fading piece of trim, figured while I had the bumper off I'd install the OEM guards on the heat exchangers. I looked for an install thread and nothing really came up, so I snapped a few pics during the process.

First you need to remove the bumper, there are quite a few youtube videos on this that document the process in far greater detail than I could.
is a good example.

Next install the long piece on the radiator (099-503-01-00). Its quite straight forward, there is a bunch of room to slide it into place. Just slide the little tabs on the side in between the edge of the radiator and the cooling fins on one side, bow the piece a little bit and do the same on the other side. Note that the bottom part has some clips that go over the edges of the radiator, so orientation matters. Then you push the little spikes on the back of the guards into the fins of the radiator. This part is done.

Then comes the sides (099-503-02-00). There is a large trim piece over both side radiators, it looked to be a terrible pain to remove. I tried to fit the whole guard inside of the trim piece, couldn't get it in. So I pushed it in about as far as it would go and eyeballed how much I needed to cut off to get it inside of the trim piece. I snipped a little less than 2 inches off and was able to fit it inside of the trim piece. Even after trimming there was ample coverage of the exposed portion of the radiator. Install is the same as the big radiator, except no tabs clip onto the exterior edge. There doesn't appear to be a top or bottom, so orientation matters less here.

The trimmed piece.

You can see where the trim is covering the side radiator that it is pretty well protected just by the trim so I was comfortable cutting a bit off of the bottom of the guard. Also, vacuum out all the crap, it gets nasty in there.

All exposed areas of the radiator are still covered

Same for the other side.

Now put the bumper back on and you're better protected from road debris!

Please don't mind all the finger prints and smudges...also threw an edition 1 style lip on while I had the bumper off

Hope this helps anyone who wants to DIY this. Sucks that the PFL cars didn't get these from the factory.

Beautiful write up mate, it's been a long while since anyone did a good post in this forum section.

Thank you for guiding others, taking pics and marking out how to get these tricky little things on. Really liked the post, good looking car man 👌

PS: What car ramps are you using? Currently looking for some that will let me get the C63 up on ramps without scraping.

Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Do you happen to have any more pics of the carbon fiber Edition 1 style front splitter? I've been looking to get one for my car as well. How was the fitment?

The one outside cooler grille is not aligned properly , you might want to try to shift it as the the tubes are exposed . The grille is supposed to cover the tubes from impact

You're welcome! I've gained a lot of knowledge from this forum over the years, try to give back when I can.

I used "rhino ramps" with a concrete block on each side used as a "booster" in front of the ramp. It worked but was kind of sketch, wouldn't recommend...haha. Planning on getting some race ramps soon.

You're welcome! I took a couple pics after work in the sunlight. I bought it used from another member here. It's an RW Carbon lip, all the carbon on my front bumper is RW, fitment has been great. I will say that the large carbon trim piece faded prematurely, but Matt at RW made it right by ordering me a new one. Great customer service. The other smaller pieces are fine, so I'm assuming it was just a manufacturing issue with that one piece. I definitely recommend them if you're looking!

Thanks, yeah I noticed it and corrected before buttoning up, the lower tab wasn't in all the way so the piece is still bowed out a bit in the picture. It's a pretty tight space, fiddly to work in.
