It was raining cats and dogs yesterday. Reminded me of Autovlog

Was there an actual design issue with these cars? Or was it that guy milking his super unusual problems for views?

I was driving at 140kmph for 100km through pouring rain. In had a dream where my engine got clogged just like Autovlog’s.

Is it generally better not to drive these cars in pouring rain?

I live in South Florida and if driving this car in the rain was a problem I'd be in trouble. I've driven in many torrential downpours and have encountered no issues. I expect that if he had an issue it was because the car was driven through deep standing water.

Same here - very normal to be caught in torrential rain in Florida, never had an issue. Who knows what that guy did or not - all about the quota.

I’ve driven through flooded sections on the freeway and crazy rain falls as in tropical storms with crazy winds. In those situations slow tf down & even more so on flooded roads. At first I was thinking it was a design flaw but if that’s true then there should be a lot more hydrolock c63s, especially in south florida. No offense but that guy autovlog is just some idiot on youtube. If you watch his car review, it’s pretty clear that he doesn’t know anything about cars. 100% respect him for trying to provide for his family so I do hope he stay successful on youtube.

only seen a few of his videos and 2 of them were him managing to break his cars....I'm far from a full on professional mechanic but he definitely seems like one of those guys that “can read the brochure”

No design flaw. Just bad luck and milking it for views. He got a wave of water above the hood line, so yes of course the intakes will suck that right in.
