2 Questions

1. How can you turn the steering wheel without starting the engine? I have the ACC set to ON but it seems the wheel is still locked?

2. How can you put the car in neutral without starting the car?

Great questions and hoping someone knows the answer. Case in point - last week the auto start/stop malfunctioned in a pretty bad spot and the car wouldn't restart. I couldn't get the steering wheel to move, but if so would have pushed the car out of the way of traffic. I was basically blocking traffic in a ~45mph zone. Waited 15min and the car started again, but painful and scary until then.....

As far as I know the answer to both questions is you can't. There's no mechanical link from the gear selector to the transmission, so you can't put it in neutral w/o power and the steering wheel lock can't be unlocked mechanically, either by turning a physical key. The car essentially has to be put on dollies to move it if it's dead.

So actually I didn't say there's no power though. It has power but just not starting the engine.

I haven't tried it, but my guess is you just need to turn on the ignition (press start button twice w/o foot on the brake). I know you can release the parking brake with the ignition on, and as far as I know the steering lock unlocks as well. I haven't tried if the transmission can be put in neutral with the ignition on, or if it needs oil pressure. At least the 9-speed in the FL has an electric oil pump, so it might work.

So I've tested this as much as I could just now. I was able to get it in neutral. First ACC to ON position and then depress the brakes and shift it into D (drive) first and then push the stick back up slightly to get into neutral. However this is a bit useless because I can't get steering column to unlock. This is a bit strange because it's not like the key fob is not detected or anything.

Agreed - when stuck I was able to get it into neutral but couldn't move the steering wheel so not much good.... Not so good when your AMG turns into a brick! I'm now making sure to turn auto start/stop off every time!
