C63 2016 whining/humming noise from the back when turning

Hi, my C63 makes a weird whining/humming noise which comes from the back, everytime I turn the wheel and accelerate.

I thought it was the diff but I am not entirely sure. The garage couldn't locate the noise either.

However when I accelerate straight, there is no humming noise at all, only when I turn the steering at low speeds and accelerate.

Thanks for your help!

*****If it has not been done, I would drain and refill the differential. The way you describe it, it sounds like gear whine, or a worn bearing - inboard or outboard. Changing the fluid is easy enough, and if it hasn't been done, it should be done. 2016 to now is a long time, and parts wear and normal wear and tear depending upon mileage can cause the problem as you describe - mebbe that is all it needs - cheap enough.

I have a newer C63s, and when I changed my lower mileage differential fluid out, it did have quite a bit of material on the drain plug magnets. Make sure you get the correct fluid for your year car, it may be different if your year does not have the newer electronic lock differential. They both have mechanical parts that wear and those gears (ring and pinion) are under a LOT of shear stress. More so if you drive assertively, race, play Need for Speed on a PS4 or PS5 and then go drive your car, etc...

Good luck. Pic below is for MY year car not necessarily your year. Please check for what you need for your application.

do you by any chance know how often differential fluid should be changed?

i just had a service done at 72k km and did the whole thing including spark plugs and transmission service but completely forgot the differential!

i did have my differential replaced around 40k km and mercedes would have drained and changed fluid then so hopefully from 40k to 70k km it wouldnt have been required again

According to the MB Required Service Work sheet (photos below) the rear axle differential oil should be changed at 2,000 miles and then at 30,000 miles/3 years then at 60,000 miles/6 years then 90,000 miles/9 years and so on.
I just had Service A completed at MB Dealership for my 2019 C63s coupe with 18,399 miles. I purchased the car new in April 2019 so even though it's not at 30,000 miles it is 3 years. So I'm glad I saw your post. And the Dealership should have advised me.
I also see the engine air filter needs to be replaced at 30,000 miles or 3 years. For Engine 177.
