Front lower control arm/ball joint
Looks like im starting to see some wear and tear on the front lower control arms as mentioned by my mechanic during a service and also evident from the squeaking sound on low speed turns.
Curious if someone knows when on average one can expect this kind of part to start wearing down since my car is just over 80,000 km. Although the roads here in Toronto can get pretty rough
Waiting for my mechanic to find out the part numbers etc so I can get an idea on how much this will cost me?
Also, mechanic said that these have to be changed in pairs so both sides must be replaced. Is this true?
Thanks in advance!

If one had been damaged from an accident or curbing one side hard at a lower mileage sure just replace the damaged side but at 80k driven on rough roads it makes sense to replace both otherwise you will only end up having to take it back to the mechanic when the second one wears out if only one is replaced now, and the car may not track right if only one is replaced on a higher mileage vehicle, or have abnormal tire wear even after alignment if one of the arms is worn.
It is not a difficult job for a mechanic.
