Depends on the model year. 2019+ has online map updates. Looks like AU gets 3 years free like we do here in the USA and then you can extend it. I renewed my subscription and am in the 4th year now. One year of map updates is like $40 if I remember correctly. For older models the maps need to be updated by a dealership, but at least here that was also free for the first 3 years. It's not tied to the warranty.

Look I think it's worth keeping the car always updated. A 3 year deal is about $1200 Australian Dollars which isn't that bad in the scheme of things but some of the car features should be free in my book after spending a packet to actually buy the car....
