AMG dealer vs Indy shop trans service.

Got a new to me 18 63S sedan. At 42k miles. I want to do all fluids to get it back to proper maintenance schedule. I got the trans service kit from FCP euro. Called the dealer and got a quote of 800$ for trans-engine-diff changes with me bringing parts.

The star garage on FL east cost quoted 350 for it all. He mentioned I may or may not need a trans pan replacement.

. Should I let the dealer handle the trans or ok with a Indy shop? Should I upgrade the pan to a Weistec 722.9 Transmission Pan while in there? Is the trans fluid and filter service involved enough in better off at the dealer?

I had an independent shop do mine and saved a good amount of money. So long as they're a good independent shop, I'd go with them.

FWIW, there is a thread currently running on another forum speaking about just this. An indie did a 'routine' PDK flush. Afterwards, issues. Indie was asked about brand of fluid. Stated it was, but if they run out of BRAND-certified PDK fluid, they would use Motul instead. Now, a shifting issue and a drive out to a BRAND dealership. Vehicle was supposedly 'fixed', but the owner is not satisfied due to continuing shifting issues. Latest is that the owner will be notifying the dealership there might be a fluid issue and to please flush it. If I were to guess, to get it all out, the filters might need to be changed, a new tray and a gasket kit. I wonder whose pocket all this is going to eventually come out of; the owner, the indie or the dealership. Wanna guess?

I do all my own work on both my vehicles. The only thing I am a stickler for is keeping up with recommended all maintenance and servicing. I do plugs every 30K, oil/filter changes every 5K, cabin filter and blades as needed, and brake pads/rotors. But when it comes to fluids, I leave that up to the dealership to ensure if something goes wrong, I have 1 number to call and 1 throat to choke: the dealership. Also, I am guaranteed they will use the appropriate recommended fluids and properly dispose of them.

But that's me.

it sucks that the consumer always gets burned. So far the dealer gave me a quote and has ghosted me. Like no I’m not gonna hand over $$ just because I got a 63s. I didn’t get the car by being taken advantage of.

At this point Indy shop will do it with my liquid Molly fluid and filter kit from FCP. they will also do a Weistec upgraded trans pan. I called a few performance euro shops. One wanted 800& just for trans and filter exchange. One said they won’t touch it if I provide the parts. Even if it’s straight from the dealer. Dealer said 800 for trans diff and motor oil change, but they have ghosted me and haven’t replied to my calls. So far short tier service from MB.
