Should dealership replace instead of repairing rims they damaged?

Took my 2022 CLA45 in for its Service A in May and everything seemed fine when I picked it up. A few weeks later I am washing the car and noticed a scratch on the driver side front rim. Sat all day wondering where I went and what I have done that caused that but just learned to accept it and had it fixed at a wheel repair that cost me $240. August now and I had my 2020 C63S serviced. Few hours after picking up I go straight home let it cool for few hours then prepare for hand wash. Started with the wheels then there I see again a scratch on my not one but both driver side rims that looked identical to the one on CLA. Called dealership and both my SA and manager are off. Ruined my weekend, had car meets planned too. As title states should the dealership replace or repair it and reimburse me for tge CLA since now I know it's their fault? I seriously hope they replace it I don't want a refurbished wheel. Next time will definitely take pictures before and check the car before I leave the dealers but I would never expect this from them. Lesson learned...

1st pick is CLA from back in May and others are C63 today. Noticed the pattern in damage?

I think you're going to be hard pressed to get the stealership to cover the damage as you didn't notify them prior to leaving the lot.

If you do get them to cover it, I think its unreasonable to automatically demand a new wheel. I'd give them opportunity to repair the wheel first. If you're not happy with the repairs (i.e. not repaired as well as your CLA wheel) you could ask for a replacement.

I was in the same dilemma sometime last year. Mine needed a software update, as a result of this service my rims were curbed. They did not admit fault when I took it back but did REPAIR all 3 wheels that were damaged from the detail department. They won’t replace your wheels, they will repair them for you. At least that was my case. Those wheels ain’t cheap hence why they will always option to repair unless cracked down the barrel.

Yup dealership said they couldn't have damaged the rim but they are willing to repair it and pay for it. Should I worry about the other side of the rim? I know we'll never see that side of the rim but I'm sure theres damage too

Yes, if your wheels are Forged, replace is right call. You cannot add material back to a forged wheel. If the throw it on the lathe and shave material off, it is no longer the same looking wheel. If they are not forged, then repair is all you'll get

It looks like their automatic car wash caused the scratch. They said they are sending someone to my house to repair the scratch which definitely means the typical sanding, filling, spray job. This sucks I wish I took pictures before handing key over. I think mine is forged will have to call my SA about it. Thanks

Not surprised. From my experience, they won’t admit fault but when you persist in a nice way, a reputable dealership will pay for a “courtesy“ repair.
