It's official! MBC63s Cab - New Owner Questions (Drive modes & Carplay)
First - the car - here she is:
The mods done thus far include
1) Window Tint
2) RENNtech Exhaust Valve Module
3) Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (295 Rear/265 Front)
Soon to be added:
1) Wheel spacers (15 rear, 12 front)
2) Mercedes Brembo Brake Kit (Rotors, Pads, Sensors) - 0004206600
3) Blacked out window trim
Finally, two questions I had for the community that I'm hoping someone with experience can help with:
1) Do you really have to change the mode to "I"/"Individual" every single time you the car - or is there any way to set it by default?
2) My vehicle appears to have Apply Carplay only when connected via iPhone cable. Is there a reliable aftermarket wireless device that will connect with the car wirelessly?
I've seen a couple different options out there, but not one that has been tried and true (especially with the LTI version of the car that has Carplay functional when connected via cable) that everyone can support - any help pointing me in the right direction would be apprecaited.
Finally....this car is epic. Glad to be part of the community!

- Yes, the drive mode reverts back to Comfort every time you turn off the car. This is because of regulations. The engine has to start in the homologated mode and less efficient modes have to be explicitly selected by the driver. Works like that in pretty much all brands. One exception is Audi, where it stays in the selected mode, but the engine/transmission setting reverts back to Comfort/Auto, so it doesn't stay in the Sport setting. This can be changed via coding, but you can't do it yourself, because the modules are encrypted. There are remote coders such as BenzNinja and others that can make coding mods for a fee of course. I personally like that it starts back up in Comfort, so I can let the car warm up and ease out of my neighborhood etc. With the AMG Drive Unit on the steering wheel you just need to push the rotary knob to activate I*. Don't have to turn it. I go back and forward between C and I*. C for surface streets and I* when I'm on the highway or faster roads and I have the exhaust button mapped to one of the soft buttons, so I can open the exhaust back up when I select C.
- Yes, wired only. There are several third-party adapters. Carlinkit is a popular one. They all have delays as far as I know. Takes a while to connect and there is some bulk to them, so they block the wireless charger and/or the cup holders. I personally don't use CarPlay very often as the built-in navigation is very good, IMO. Traffic is highly accurate in my area and it has taken me on better routes than Google Maps at times. I do use Google Maps if I drive in the city during busy times for better surface street traffic information and then I just plug it in. This way I can easily control when I want it to connect via BT and when I wanna use CarPlay.

Also, I appreciate the details on Carlinkit. It's too bad there's a lag - I was really hoping there was a seamless upgrade that made the whole user experience feel like OEM. Regardless, I'll do a more research on that top before committing to Carlinkit
