Catted Downpipe

Hey guys.

I just got some catted downpipes with 130mm HJS 200cpsi cats installed on my 2019 C63s. The exhaust is louder, but loud enough for my liking. Will the exhaust get a little bit louder over time ie: does the dp & cats have to "break in"? Or will the volume stay the same? I also have a awe catback and EVM coming. Will this improve the volume a lot more or will it be minimal?

I'm trying to stay away from catless because of the smell.

Thank you. I'm probably just going to go catless as the catted was not nearly as loud as I though they were going to be for being 200 cell.

I have the same redstar pipes on my 63. I have the EVM set to always open. Honestly its more than enough volume. Sounds good and calm down low but when you get on it, it gets very loud. No CEL, no tune needed. Best option for these cars if you dont want a tune.

How long have you had the pipes on ? and did you get the 200 cell HJS cats?

What are you going to replace them with? If you go catless and you're interested in selling the catted set you currently have, I may be interested.

No cel with the redstar hjs catted downpipes? Do you have o2 spacers fitted?
There was an old thread with a few members saying redstar downpipes with hjs cats threw a cel where as with gesi cats no cel.

Downpipes on the car for almost a week now. No CEL so far. And no I don’t have o2 spacers.

I was expecting a CEL because I also read the forum and saw that people were having that issue.

While on this topic, has anyone had their downpipes ceramically coated before installation to keep temps down?

That's good to know no CEL. Thanks for the info.
Planning on getting redstar downpipes for a while now and just wasn't sure of which cats to go for.

What's the going price for install only of downpipes? I don't care to save the old ones so the cutting method is fine for me

I'm in Vancouver Canada if anyone has recommendations for a decent so I'd appreciate

Thanks

I was quoted $1350 for the method to remove the transmission which seems to be the going rate for that method.

I installed the downpipes myself. I cut the OEM.

I bought the Modal Works catted downpipes, loud but not terribly loud but definitely a lot louder than stock. With the car in comfort and the evm off it basically sounds stock, evm on and sport plus makes it sound like a different car.

Car is now showing a CEL, though no power is being pulled, will have to see whats causing it.

It's likely a code being brought on by the lower quality catalytic converters in the downpipes you put on if you didn't have that tuneed out. I have not seen any reports of the catted option from that company not end up resulting in throwing a code.

it could be a quality issue. It could also be that modalworks uses a smaller 200 cats than the Redstar. That probably why it is louder as well. Going 130 mm instead of 121 was a mistake

Bingo, getting different O2 spacers installed later in the week and then move to tuning if worse comes to worse.

I think you just get what you pay for with the modal works vs the redstar, name brand cats vs the best chinesium you can buy,

On the facelift the HJS 130 option is pretty much not going to cause a CEL. The HJS 121 option might cause a CEL on the facelift. This is info directly from redstar. As far as cats causing CELs, not all cats are made the same. HJS is a known supplier for a few OEMs. Their cats are EURO 6 rated which means they will not cause a CEL as long as they are used in the right application. The washcoat on the HJS cats is what allows them to be 200 cell and still be euro 6 certified. This makes them more costly to produce of course. The modal works cats are just Chinese low quality cats and thats why those pipes are so much cheaper. I have the redstar 130 hjs cats on my 63 and the build quality is second to none. Made in Russia as opposed to the modalworks which are made in china.

Go on alibaba. They are literally the same exact pipes. And how do you think they can offer them so cheap to you? Many other brands selling chinese downpipes and just slapping their name on it.
