Hey guys , last year i was racing an rs7 once and i was low on gas to begin with, long story short we got carried away and my car engine light started flashing and the car shut off/limp mode !

i pulled over to the side , waited about 5mins and i restarted the car , she turned on , and lucky the gas station was right there !

after fill up , engine light turned off after 10kms about!and since then ive had 3 tracks day of tot abuse and all good!

just wondering , any one with knowledge think i damaged anything by running out of gas going at least 200km/hour , or the car detected that and put me into limp mode so i can stop before any damage does happen ! Thanks

Yes, running the engine at high loads with low fuel pressure can damage the engine by overheating valves and their seat, as well as burning the electric motors in the fuel pumps. Fuel does double duty. Besides combusting it, it also serves to cool things down. From all the parts in the fuel system to the combustion chamber. The fuel partly keeps these things cool. Fuel starvation is not good for the engine and the pumps, so likely it entered limp mode to try to protect itself. You should never let the tank run dry, especially if you are getting on it. You also end up sucking potential debris and sludge from the tank into the engine.

You won't know until something starts to fail prematurely.

You'll be fine as Superswiss said it raised a CEL/entered limp mode to protect itself and the good thing is once you filled up again you haven't had that issue for almost a year.

It's just a one off and your car is fine you haven't damaged anything don't worry. Next time you're giving it hell just do it with at least a quarter tank 😁
