Any ideas? - Rattling from dashboard/under bonnet at speed
After a month or so after buying a C63S, it developed a rattle from what appears to be coming from behind the dashboard.
Having read through countless other posts for this issue, I expected tightening the strut braces in the engine bay would fix it, but made no difference.
Some observations:
- Noise starts from 50km/h / 30mph, and frequency of rattle increases with speed.
- Engine RPM does not affect the rattle
- Rattling pauses when cornering sharply to the left or right, but rattle is present and consistent when driving in straight line
- Worse over rough road surfaces, but also rattles on smooth fresh tarmac, with no bumps
- Seems correlated to speed and cornering load
I also have a sunroof that requires greasing, so I am aware of that as a separate topic and not confusing those creaks with this noise.
Has anybody had a similar noise and behaviour and maybe know what could be the cause?
Planning to take it to MB dealership to investigate soon if I cannot find the source of the rattle. Aside from the noise, the car feels to drive straight and true.

. Below are the work orders that were performed at MB service to correct the rattles.
In my case the most successful was when they put Kryton Lube on the roof seals. See work order below.
Fortunately, the car has not exhibited any current rattles and a pleasure to drive without rattles. Mileage 33,135.

I had a rattle/squeak that seemed to come from the dashboard, but as the poster above mentioned, it was actually the overhead unit by the rear view mirror that contains the cameras and etc. Took the shop foreman for a test drive and he immediately localized it from the passenger seat. Applied pressure to the unit with his hands and the rattle stopped. They put some felt behind it and it has been quiet since. It's not always easy to locate the source of a rattle. The actual source can come as a surprise. Use your hands to apply pressure to the overhead unit, pillars and such and see if the rattle stops. That'll tell you where it's coming from.

Yeah, the sunroof I figured is quite chatty, but the main rattle was happening with it raised and/or fully open.
Thanks for the suggestions, I have tried to press on most of the parts of the cabin, incl. the mirror and cameras housing and the rattle would persist.
It's currently in the shop at Mercedes, will report back if they find anything specific/new.
