C63s Wheels confusion - NEWBIE

Hi all, I got this 2016 C63s from my bro-law He pretty much wrecked it and insurance wouldn't cover it, so I got it for nothing and have been getting it back on the road. I'm down to the last few things, one of which is new wheels. He was drifting and hit a curb, breaking off both psgr wheels at the hub. I borrowed a set of freebies to get it on the road to my place; however, need to buy new ones now.

So here's my confusion...I know anything from MB is way overpriced. Why are there places listing AMG wheels between $200-$400. Are these fraudsters? There's a LOT of them. But there's also a lot of ppl selling AMG wheels at about 800-900 each. What's the difference here? I'm not racing the car. Doubt I'll ever seriously stress normal rims; but maybe I don't understand how much pressure this high powered car is putting on the wheels?

Please help me understand why I should pay close to 4 racks for wheels vs these? And thanks for your patience with a newb!

Here's a couple examples of tire shops advertising on ebay/FB.

The only pic I can find at the moment. Rear wheel center still bolted on, broke off completely.

Haven’t looked at your link, so not sure what you are finding, but there are essentially three types of wheels. They are differentiated by how they are made.

The cheapest wheels are cast. They are heavy and bulky. The middle ground is flow formed. They are lighter and don’t break the bank. The top dog wheels are all forged. Those typically cost north of $2000 per wheel, but they are light while still strong. Lighter wheels reduces unsprung mass, which makes a car more nimble as there’s less mass that has to be rotated and slowed down constantly. If you are familiar with the concept of a flywheel, it’ll make sense. The heavier the flywheel the more energy it takes to accelerate its rotation and the more energy it stores as it rotates, so slowing it down again also takes a lot of force. Same applies to wheels or anything that rotates for that matter.

Looks not good - there is a lot of to do & check. some parts bent at the chassis i guess.

I dont know how much is price of oem MB used rims/wheels in your country.

As superswiss says i would not buy the cheapest wheels for this car.

first check price used oem , second look for good aftermarket - them make a desission.

buy good tires too - Michelin.

In addition to the differences between cast, vs flow formed, vs billet machined... Buying OEM wheels gives you some assurance that they were manufactured to meet safety standards. Buying ebay China knock-offs is risky to me because they may have been made with inferior materials and have no safety standards to meet. Essentially the knock offs were only made to visually look the same, but may be unsafe from a structural standpoint. You can also go with an aftermarket reputable company.

If you are looking to save a little money on OEM wheels check out the below website (you have to scroll down quite a bit to the AMG wheels):

If you want to save a little money on tires check out this other website (filter by "High tread" and the brand of tire you prefer):

@C63s_Jack Not sure what you mean.... When you insert a hyperlink in this forum it automatically removes the "www" because it isn't really necessary anymore. Most browsers I'm familiar with (Google, Firefox, Edge, etc) don't require you to type "www". For one of the websites I linked to you could just type "originalwheels.com" into your browser and it should auto add the applicable "https://www." or "http://www." when it pings the DNS (Domain Name System) for that name.

Plus, those links I provided are automatically shortened by Google and the Android OS of my phone when you click on "share link" to copy and paste it in here.

Here's the text of the full web addresses if you'd rather use them:
https://www.originalwheels.com/
and
https://www.utires.com/

@C63s_Jack Sky is the limit... But here's some popular webites for used things in the US:
  • Ebay
  • Facebook Marketplace
  • Craigslist
Beware, because those are all open to the whole world to view there's also lots of scammers out there trying to buy and sell with fraudulent intent.

@C63s_Jack "sky is the limit" for finding used parts in the US, means there are thousands and thousands of internet-based places you can find used, privately owned, things for sale in the US.

For example, even this forum has a place to buy and sell things. And since there seems to be forums for every single car make and model that also have a buy/sell/trade section, that means that just for car parts you could search hundreds of different forums.

Ebay has a mix of private sellers and businesses. But most of the items are used on there.

Facebook Marketplace is almost all private sellers, but I've see quite a few small businesses on there too.

Many years ago, Craigslist was one of the most popular sites to find used things, but it became a place for "not so legitimate" transactions, and lots and lots of scammers.

There's also a bunch of junkyard websites where you can buy used parts off crashed cars, or even the whole wrecked car ... Like CoPart, or U-Pull-and-Pay, or BParts, and many, many more. YouTuber Mat Armstrong has been buying almost all his wrecked super-cars from CoPart and rebuilding them.

https://www.upullandpay.com/
https://www.copart.com/
https://us.b-parts.com/

On any of the website I mentioned you are taking some risk, because you don't really know who you are buying from, and whether the item is legitimate until you receive it.
