Hi all,

Someone broke into our GLC300 by smashing the driver's side rear window & grabbing an empty backpack & a snack cooler.

Any recommendations for someone who can replace the window with a factory (or OEM) part & clean out the chips inside the door to prevent future malfunctions?

Local dealer is quoting ~$1400 while one mobile glass installer is quoting ~$400. We have a $1000 deductible & aren't sure whether insurance would cover the added expense of dealer replacement. Any suggestions welcome. Thank you.

Not sure about other insurance companies (We have AAA) our deductible is $500 (Without rental coverage) they cover all glass.

Most reputable body shops can do the job.

Hi Doorkey,

Thanks for the reply.

We ended up going with a local glass shop as our insurance would only cover the prevailing market rate for glass replacement, up to about $500 around these neck of the woods.

Curious - where did this occur? I know SF has rampant smash and grab. It makes it too much of a risk to go there.

Hi TugboatBill,

The incident happened in Berkeley, while my wife was visiting friends for lunch.

It didn't help that items (of questionable value) were left visible in the back seat.
