CA Smog and Tuned ECU
Hi all,
Looking to get forum members experience(s) with CA smog (CVN checks) and a tuned ECU. I’m due for emissions check at the end of this month, living in Los Angeles County with an S55 AMG as my work commuter. The vehicle is slightly modded with an 80mm FSP, Race IQ ECU tune and MK Ultra TCU tune - all stock exhaust.
Anyone care to share their emissions experiences, drama or recommendations….

No experience here and I'm not tuned, but the law only went into effect last year on July 19, so probably not many here have gone through since then. But as I understand it, you will automatically fail smog if they detect modified software. I believe they do checksum tests against the CVN they received directly from the manufacturers for each engine among other things and as said it's an automatic fail.

Just an update to the members: Took the tuned S55 for emission test at Smog Zone in Van Nuys, as recommended by my trusted MB indy shop (A&N European) who made a call beforehand to alert the tech. The verdict - Passed!

Did the secondary delete and x-pipe. Moved to Washington during the pandemic, no smog state...

Nope don't have the originals. A few folks have let me know some shops don't do visuals. No tune, no CEL, just no secondary cats.
If I can't get a shop, I'd even consider paying someone to borrow their exhaust system.
