Importing into Canada
I have to replace my older Mercedes and I've been thinking about importing an M-class and an E-class to Alberta to save on the purchases. Is there any one with a recent testimonial on a mercedes import with how much they saved or didn't save?
Really confused on how so many people praise the mass savings from importing a 1-6 year old car from the US, when off the bat, you are paying 25%-30% for the exchange rate, local state taxes, Canadian duty and gst. Moreover, people in a province like BC have to pay HST in addition. And, if you want the original 4 year warranty to transfer, you're looking at a couple thousand more..
I'm assuming you would need to purchase price in the states to be 20-30K less vs what it would cost in Canada, to make it worthwhile?

Been trying to figure that one out myself, and as you said the numbers just don't seem to add up unless you're talking about a 15+ year-old collector car. Very interested to hear from those that have done it.
