ISO 2005 SL 55 Door Handle Buttons

ISO 2005 SL 55 Door Handle Buttons
Was washing my car the other day and noticed the button for the door lock was missing on passenger door. I was puzzled to how these buttons are affixed and how I could of lost one. So i go over to the drivers door to check out the button and found it "not so flush". So me in my curious ways decided to pry it with my finger nail and it came right off with ease. Further inspection, i found that these buttons are just held in with a bit clear rubber similar to silicone calking. thinking of just re siliconing back in place.
Anybody on this board have any experience with this issue? Could use your advice. Went to Burlington MB today and they say I have to purchase new door handles, have them painted and installed. Costing me close to $1500 to replace both sides. I can't see why I couldn't find an used handle and pry the buttons out and silicone in my existing handles. Technically I only need the passenger side.
