Code Reader in Manitoba for a 1995 S420

Any members in Manitoba have a code reader that works with my vehicle? (1995 S420)
Found one to purchase on the internet but requires a US mailing address. Working on getting one but thought I should just ask here as well.
Could bring the car by or rent it from you.
Car has thrown a check engine light. Disconnecting battery did not reset. Would like to know cause.
Just reply here.
Nice to be back here. Had an account years ago with previous cars but could not remember what it was.
Will resurrect it if I find it.

First thing to check is your OBD connector, as 1995 was the transition year. Do you have a 16 pin trapezoid shape connector somewhere under your steering column?

No is the older style on the fire wall under the hood.
Found one on the internet but they don't deliver to Canada.
I think the correct version of this for me is the one on the left.
Plugs on end seem to be the only difference.
Will buy one when I figure out how to ship it here.

These OBD-I scanners are primitive pulse counters. You might be able to build your own but you'll need a reference sheet that relates the light pulses to the problem. My '95 Jeep has a capability to turn the ignition on/off twice, then on and the check engine light flashes code patterns indicative of the problem. A couple months ago, this system told me the O2 sensor was bad, and replacing it solved the problem.

Maybe this will help.

That is probably beyond my technical abilities. Was hoping someone had one. Process is pretty simple.
Guess I need the one on the right though.
Still hoping someone has one I could just use.

Nothing about this device seems to qualify it as technology restricted export, so it's probably just a matter of the seller not wanting the bother of export shipping for such an inexpensive item. You could look into freight forwarding services that would do the export shipping paperwork. The device is really simple to construct. Maybe you can find a geeky neighborhood kid who will wire one up for you. $10 worth of parts and an hou's time.

Yes I think he just can't be bothered to do shipping outside the US.
Is there a schematic available for how to make one? No more Radio Shack for easy parts but could probably find someone who could put it together if I had everything.
Probably easiest to get it shipped to a US address and then forwarded. Looks like we are losing postal service here in Canada due to a strike though.
Still hoping for a "I've got one, come on by" reply.

There's a schematic at the link I posted in #4 above. Really simple -- indicator light, resistor, push botton switch and some wire.

Got it. Thanks.
Sorry I never followed that link. Will try to source that locally with parts/service deal.
Hopefully a hobbyist around here has/can get the parts and would be willing to put them together.

I am now the proud owner of the code reader pictured above.
The owner of the website agreed to mail it to me here in Canada for an additional $17 postage.
I am aware that this was more than I could have made one for but was dependent on the files from the website anyway and didn't feel right about just using them without compensating the OP who did all the work.
If anyone needs their codes read I will give you a great deal!
