Doing the brakes and rotors? Dealer?

Is this something that I should have done at the dealer, or can any competent brake place do the job? Dealer wants like $1300, alot of that is labor. Has anyone done the brakes themselves? I am trying to get stuff done to this car as cheap as possible so I can sell it and get a new SL.

There was a thread on this Forum or on http://forums.mbnz.org/forums/forums...iew.asp?fid=22
and the job was described as quite simple. Run a search and you should be able to find it. You didn't say whether you are doing the front, back, or both but whatever, that's alot of $ for something this straight forward. Remember, they charge over $100/hr. for labor.

This is an easy DIY project. Ensure you have carjack, two jackstands, and all the associated tools for the calipers. There ARE some great pictorials on this forum, but you 'll have to spend some time sorting them out.

EDIT: Dug around and found it...
Here's the post by Gregs210 - it's an excellent step-by-step. Please send 'em a thank-you PM. He has helped me tremendously.

But is the W210 going to be the same as the W215?

I suspect that they are very similar in nature. In fact, disc brakes on most vehicles are similar. I would pull the wheel off and have a look if you are thinking of doing the job yourself. I really doubt that you will have much trouble if you have basic mechanical skills and have done brake work before. If you don't feel comfortable, have someone do the job for you. Good luck.
