test drove a 211 e55 last night.....

It was a 2003 with 28k on the odo. Now, what i will do here is compare it to my current CL500 and my previous clk55(208). First off, the obvious... the power and torque are utterly intoxicating, breathtaking in fact, I would describe it as "violent", like the CLK55,-- although with it being quite cold here (40 deg), hook-up was not optimal I was suprised, however, that my CL still did not feel slow after I drove the "E". -- it felt "slower", but not a slouch, like i thought it would. The steering was awesome, the smaller steering wheel and the responsiveness was very inpressive (better than my old CLK55). The seats I liked much better than my CL, they felt like they "cradled" me better, my previous CLK55 seats I liked the least of the 3. The ride was, harsh, similar to the CLK55, as expected compared to the CL as well. The brakes were absolutely awesome.... great feel and instant stopping power, much better than the CL or CLK55 I had. The sound when the engine started was sooooooo nice, my CL seems muted in comparson. It definately has the "cool" factor to 100%, like the CLK55, where the CL has more exclusivity. What I did realize is that for the prices being asked for the E55, there are many '03 CL55's that sre not much more expensive, if at all -- I will say that I walked away VERY, VERY impressed with the "e", but NOT enough to trade my CL for it. I will try a drive on an 03+ CL55/600 and maybe decide then. For me, the CL is still just more rewarding to drive.

Interesting comparo.....
I am still in search of a good S55 or S600 and I'll be interested to see how they feel in comparison to the CL500. I love the CL, but to me it just doesn't seem to enjoy being driven aggressively...maybe I'm crazy but my CL seems happiest with some jazz on and buttering you down the road in comfort more than being ahead of the pack.....
I'm hoping the S55 will put just a bit more fun into it. If not, I guess there is always exhausts, chips, etc....
