The dealers drill 4 holes to mount the front plate. I paid $400 to have the holes filled and front bumper repainted. Double stick tape might work, but I think the CLs look much better without the front plate and holder, but to each his own.

Yup...you have to drill them into the bumper. I had the front plate holes on my S55 and I hated it. It looked like the dealer messed it up the first time because there was about 8 holes drilled in. I probably won't buy another Mercedes that had a front plate installed (they aren't required in FL).
If you still want to install that plate, I would probably do the work on your own as I guarantee you'll be more careful to get it right than they will.

I concurr. Do it yourself. A friend of mine purchased a new Porsche 911, and the dealer put 6 holes in the front bumper even after he told them not to mount it. 4 holes were from mounting the bracket, and the other 2 holes were caused when the dealer used screws that were too long when mounting the plates onto the bracket

I wish front plates aren't a requirement in CA, but it is But I've been lucky. I haven't used a front plate (or ticketed for that) since 1988 (where's the "knock on wood" imoticon?)
