Extended Warranty

My Original factory Warranty on my 2002 CL 500 ends in a few days, I spoke to someone at the Mercedes Benz dealership and he said that the extended warranty is not as comprehensive and not as good as the original factory warranty and it will cost me over $3,500 for 5+ years.

Do you think it is worth the investment...? Or should I take the risk and pay for the repairs myself? I only drive the car on the weekends.

Please let me know what you think!!!

Thanks

I, too, have a '02 CL500 and I wouldn't dream of owning this car without a warranty. You could easily spend $3500 on one trip to the dealer. I bought mine used and it came with the MB Starmark warranty for one year following expiration of the factory coverage. I extended this for 3 or 4 years, I forget which, for a cost of $3K. This coverage is quite good but is not available to you, unfortunately. I was hesitant at the time but now I see what a good purchase it was in light of the expense of mantaining such a car and the fact that it is transferrable (adds to resale value if selling the car yourself.) I would check around to see what is available and then pick one. I would try to find one that is transferrable if you plan on selling the car yourself. I don't know if that option is available or not. Anyway, unless you don't care about money, be sure to get coverage. Good luck.

My first experience with my extended warranty ($3500 @ GMPP) paid for my parktronic to be repaired, cost me $100 the cost to them was about $87.
The second experience was to replace the coil packs on both sides and all spark plugs, cost to me $100, cost to GMPP was $4000.
My car is being readied as we speak (type) and the cost to me again $100, but I'll bet their cost will be at least $3000. They are replacing 3 O2 sensors, the A/C controls, the gas peddle, and the PSE.
Do I need to say "do the math"???? HMMM… didn’t think so!

Warrantees are found all over, I purchased my CL at a Chevrolet dealership and they only offered the General Motors Protection Plan. Check around on the net.
