RETROFIT: W215 CL500 Japan removal and AU / UK upgrade

I have been busy with a new project recently. It is a CL500 with Japan spec hardware being converted over to AU spec.

The left side of the trunk with the old CD stacker

No phone system (apart from the now useless emergency call system).

The Japan COMAND system with no map, no FM and not much at all

Time to take out the seats

Rear seats and sound insulation out

Bottom left area has the equipment tray for telematics. Notice the cable path.

Left trunk area now exposed

Right trunk area showing the antenna connection point

Old equipment removed

The car is now ready for wiring changes

Working out what stays in and what is to be removed

Rear parcel shelf is out - phone compensator in and tv antenna lines go in.

A fair amount of work in the c-pillar to get the wiring in plus make all the new phone connections to the OCP.

Rewired and updated trunk area. BOSE, CD, TV and seat air all shown.

Close up of rear antenna junction in right corner.

Rewired rear seat area (TV, COMAND, Phone, Voice control, BOSE)

Interior now back inside the car with centre console to be updated

Amrest phone adaptation shown underside (cabling cut-out now used as per OEM)

Final armrest UHI fitment

Final Navigation unit fitment

MORE TO SEE LATER !

Will be fitted with Bluetooth.

Cabling, trims, phone system and bluetooth supplied by MBENZNL

Hi. No I dont import cars. I was given permission to modify two cars at the same time just by chance alone.

We made some parts lists and sent them over to MBENZNL for shipping. In reality the task itself has 3 stages.

1/ Working with the interior and trunk trims.

2/ Dealing with the wiring and changes in configuration + installing the modules

3/ Changing the coding and validation of correct operation.

I have seen and heard of some rather pathetic conversions being done locally and I am hoping to promote a better understanding of what is involved and what people should expect for their money.

Everyone works hard to pay for their car and I am promoting work done to factory wiring standards.
