TPMS won't work w/ chrome wheels?

Tire pressure monitor sensor won't work w/ chromed wheels. That's what the dealer is telling me. The wheels are the original AMG 18". I had them chromed and had the dealer mount them so they could recode sensors. I drive ~ 1 mile and the TPMS errors out; "Visit Workshop." Dealer's solution is to turn off the system. Has anyone heard of this or had a similar problem? It sounds like BS to me, but I'd like to know for sure.

The only thing I can think of is the chrome coating blocking the radio signal from the sensor to the antenna. Ask your dealer what the exact error is using their computer.

Pure, unadulterated b... well you get the idea.

Mine are chrome and although the sensor recently croaked, it had worked without a problem for the previous 5 months.

I'm waiting (only 3 weeks) for the new module to come in and then it will work again.

Talking

Metallic contact between the sensor and the wheel can impair the function. If the car can not "hear" all four sensors you may get this kind of a message.

(Provided that all sensors has never been switched off or forgotten to be switched on. This is done using a LF inductive hand-tool)

You can make one simple check yourself: Using an Ohm-meter, check for electric contact between the nozzle (metallic tip) and the wheel. If there is contact, you may have to replace the gasket)

is a ///AMG badged CL500.
Yeah, i have the same problem with my car. 2002 CL500. i have the chromed 5 star monoblock. most likely the same rims you have. and after a mile, it triggers the sensor, and tells me to visit workshop. i just keep resetting it. i hope it doesnt cause any damage. my agent told me i just need to add more air. i havent done it yet. it fluctuates from 29-30-28-29 from time to time.
