Looking at CL600...
I'm considering purchasing a 2001 CL600 that was formerly a company vehicle at my employer. I can purchase it for what I think is an incredible price. I would appreciate some feedback as to what I can expect as far as mechanical issues and any recommendations as far as extended warranty companies. The vehicle only has 24,000 and is in very good condition. Thanks in advance.

Well, what is the incredible price? If it's not a steal, then i'd pass and spend a bit extra to get the 2003+ with the 5.5 v12 bi-turbo. You can get great deals on the CL, so it better be real cheap for you to buy the '01.

The vehicle right now is at $24K, however, it will not be available for a couple of months. By then it should be down to around $22K. Based on what I have seen others going for it looks to be about a $10K discount. Also I have spoken on several occasions with the person who is currently driving the vehicle and it is in immaculate shape.

Just be aware that these are not the most reliable cars on the road and are extremely expensive to maintain. Definitely get a good warranty and check with your insurance company for a quote so that you know what you are getting into. Good luck.

The car sounds like a great purchase at $22,000. You should go for it, and definitely make sure you get a warranty.

I've owned Porsches in the past so I'm used to less than perfect reliability. I know it sometimes goes with the territory. I also have gotten an insurance quote and I'm fine with it. Can anyone recommend an extended warranty company? That seems to be the only problem I am running into. Most will not cover the 600.

2001 Lorinser Edition CL600 (SOLD)
Wow - I was right on que on the outlandish depreciation on these! I am so glad I got out of mine 6 mos. ago for $55K! A steal at anything under $30K, but unfortunately outdated as is always the case once the body style changes.

It has the normally aspritated V-12. I know the twin turbo was not available until 2003. The reason the price is so low is that it is a company vehicle. The sales price to employees is often much less than market or sometimes even auction price. The driver of the vehicle now is my immediate superior so I know quite a lot about the car. It seems to be a steal.

2003 CL600
I think if you like the car and are comfortable with the previous owner's maintenance of the car, then you should get it. I recently purchased a 2003 CL600 and I think its a great car. You definitely get a lot of respect driving one of these. I never knew how much people covet Mercedes cars until I pulled up in one.

You would be foolish not to buy the car for $22,000. If you don't like it after several months or even a year or two, then sell it and you'll probably still make money or break even on the car. I see no downside at $22k.

I agree and I do plan on buying. I don't really need it but it seems too good to pass up. If I like it I may trade it up for a twin turbo model.
